Description
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is a twenty-seven-year-old man of muscular build, known for his deeply tanned skin, blue eyes, and a large, spherical afro that is golden blonde in color. He is almost always seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, and his typical attire leaves his midriff exposed. He is the main protagonist who rises to fight against the oppressive Maruhage Empire, a regime that seeks to forcibly shave the heads of all citizens. Born in the mysterious Hair Kingdom, his early life was marked by being given up by his father, a hairball-like creature named Tsuyoshi, and suffering abuse from his older brothers, Bibibi and Bababa. Only his siblings Bebebe and Bububu showed him kindness.
Defining Bobobo's personality is a challenge, as he is an entirely unpredictable individual whose actions baffle even his closest allies. He operates on a logic-defying wave of absurdity, frequently breaking the fourth wall and engaging in nonsensical antics that range from cross-dressing to directing tiny micromovies in his own theater. Despite this chaotic exterior, he can retain a semi-serious composure when facing truly powerful opponents. He is also surprisingly sensitive; the slightest insult or criticism can send him into a dramatic depression. His primary motivation is the protection of hair and the freedom to express oneself, fighting against the tyranny of forced baldness. He cares deeply for his friends, especially the young girl Beauty, for whom he has a berserk button and will instantly become serious if she is threatened.
In the story, Bobobo acts as the leader of a small but growing group of rebels. His role is not that of a traditional hero; he often uses his own allies as shields or projectiles and subjects them to beatings for acting foolishly, yet he remains fiercely protective of them. His key relationships are defined by this dichotomy. He shares a close bond with the egomaniacal Don Patch, whom he frequently abuses but teams up with to perform fusions and powerful techniques. He also travels with Jelly Jiggler, a sentient, shape-shifting jelly who often serves as a shield, and the sensible young warrior Gasser, who quietly admires Bobobo. Despite his violent tendencies toward them, Bobobo has admitted that Gunkan is his best friend, and he keeps his word to help Tokoro (Jelly Jiggler) if he ever goes down the wrong path.
Throughout the series, Bobobo demonstrates significant development, particularly in flashbacks that reveal his tragic past. He once trained alongside his best friend Gunkan under a master named Juice, learning the martial art known as the Fist of the Nose Hair. Bobobo was named the successor of this style due to his royal heritage, a decision that led to a bitter falling out with Gunkan, who later became one of his greatest enemies in the Maruhage Empire. As the story progresses, Bobobo confronts his past, battles his former friend, and eventually earns the title of King of Hajikelists, solidifying his mastery over the unpredictable power of "wiggin' out".
Bobobo’s notable abilities are as bizarre as his personality. His signature fighting style is the Fist of the Nose Hair, where he uses his prehensile nose hairs as powerful whips and grappling tools. However, his true power lies in Hajike, a surreal force that allows him to manipulate reality, create objects from nothing, and drive opponents insane with confusion and wordplay. He can transform into countless absurd forms, including a carrot, a samurai, a train, and a female version named Bo-bobette. He also has the ability to fuse with his allies to create new, more powerful warriors, and can trap enemies in a separate dimension known as Bobobo World, where his bizarre logic reigns supreme. He is also said to have a colony of tiny humans and humanoid boogers living in his nose, who occasionally assist him in battle.
