Description
Hayate Ichikura, a 20-year-old economics student, balances university life with a part-time job at Mawarimichi Cafe—a place central to forging his key relationships. Acutely aware of his own frequent clumsiness, he strives to stay composed when mishaps occur, a trait mirroring his deeper struggle to define his individuality and envision his future path. His love for animals and enjoyment of reading subtly color his interactions. While socialization proves challenging, a genuinely caring nature underpins his connections with others.

At the cafe, he tutors high school student Shun Futami, whom he warmly regards as a younger kouhai ("Shun-kun") whose success he sincerely champions. His initial wariness of Souma Shiki—triggered by Souma's dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings during their first encounter outside the cafe—transformed into a solid friendship, with Hayate affectionately calling him "Souma-kun." He met Takayuki Mima near an animal cafe and now views him as a reliable role model ("Mima-san") for guidance during personal difficulties.

A significant relationship developed with 27-year-old author Motoharu Igarashi. Hayate initially knew Motoharu only as Takayuki's work partner, unaware he was the very writer Hayate deeply admired. This idolization initially made relaxing around Motoharu difficult, yet their bond matured into a meaningful friendship, with Hayate respectfully addressing him as "Igarashi-sensei."

His involvement extends into community activities as part of Sora's team. Within this group, he acts as Souma's ally and contributes to team efforts like sales, showcasing his growing capacity for collaboration beyond his immediate circle.
