Description
Blade, known as Blake in the original Japanese version, is a primary antagonist in Zoids: Fuzors and serves as the leading pilot for the wealthy and powerful Savage Hammer team. His entire career as a Zi-Fighter is shaped by a single, manipulated event from his past. Before the series begins, Blade piloted a Geno Saurer in his first battle against RD, the protagonist of Mach Storm. During that fight, his Zoid suffered a mechanical failure and was easily defeated. Unbeknownst to Blade, his own team's owner, Sandra, had sabotaged his Zoid. She then falsely blamed RD for the underhanded defeat, igniting a deep and burning hatred within the young pilot that drives the central rivalry of the series.

On the surface, Blade is often stoic, calm, and brooding, carrying himself with a cool and prideful demeanor. However, this icy exterior masks a fierce and merciless personality, particularly when his rival RD is involved. His hatred is all-consuming, leading him to act recklessly and even attack his own teammates if they get between him and his goal of revenge. He possesses a cruel and ruthless streak in battle, showing no hesitation in destroying wild Zoids or anything else that stands in his way. Despite this, he is not a complete sociopath. He holds a strong belief in the bond between a Zoid and its pilot, stating that a Zoid will never willingly betray its partner. Furthermore, he shows a genuine, devoted, and protective side to his co-pilot and close friend, Luke, for whom he frequently shows concern and risks his own safety.

As the story progresses, Blade's singular motivation for revenge begins to shift. While he spends most of the series attacking RD and Mach Storm to prove his superiority, the truth about his first defeat is eventually revealed. Even upon learning that Sandra manipulated him and that RD was innocent, Blade shows an unexpected capacity for forgiveness, dismissing the betrayal as a small matter. His priorities truly change when the true villain, Alpha Richter, kidnaps and brainwashes Luke. In the final act, Blade puts aside his long-held grudge and willingly teams up with his former rival RD to rescue Luke and stop Alpha. This alliance marks his development from a simple antagonist driven by a lie to a more complex character who respects RD as a rival and prioritizes the safety of his friend.

Throughout the series, Blade pilots several powerful Zoids. His first major machine is the Berserk Fury, a formidable Zoid capable of fusing with Luke's Buster Eagle to form the even more powerful Buster Fury. After this Zoid is destroyed by the Energy Liger, he upgrades to the Gairyuki, which Luke presents to him. The Gairyuki is highly versatile and can assume different forms through Fuzor abilities: it becomes the heavily armed Gairyuki Destroy when fused with a Dispelow, and the high-speed Gairyuki Speed when fused with an Evo Flyer. As a pilot, Blade relies heavily on the raw power and superior capabilities of his Zoids. While his skills are formidable, he tends to depend on overwhelming force rather than nuanced tactics, which often leaves him vulnerable when facing an opponent who can match his Zoid's power.

Blade's key relationships define his character arc. His intense rivalry with RD is the initial driving force of his actions, though it eventually cools into a more traditional sense of mutual respect. His relationship with Sandra is complex; she is his employer who ruined his past, yet he does not seek revenge against her when the truth comes out. Most importantly, his bond with Luke is his most redeeming quality. Luke admires Blade deeply and provides him with new Zoids, and in return, Blade becomes a loyal and protective mentor figure. Their partnership is the primary catalyst for Blade's eventual turn away from a path of pure vengeance. Following the final battle and the dissolution of the Savage Hammer team, Blade's ultimate fate is not explicitly shown, but it is implied that he and Luke may have continued their partnership as Zi-Fighters, free from the hatred that once defined him.
