Description
Lilica Evett is a central character in the anime Burn-Up Scramble, joining the elite police team known as the Warriors as its newest member. Her background is marked by isolation: she was originally part of a foreign nation’s special telepath program, but when that program was shut down, she was confined alone in a secure facility because of the dangerous nature of her psychic abilities. She was later recruited by the Warriors’ commander, giving her a second chance at a normal life, though her existence on the team remains highly classified within the police department.
Personality-wise, Lilica is shy, insecure, and slightly clumsy, a stark contrast to the cheerful and energetic computer expert who shared her name in earlier Burn-Up series. Having spent most of her life alone, she lacks developed social skills and often doubts herself. However, she deeply respects her teammates, especially Rio Kinezono, whom she addresses with the honorific “sempai.” When she consumes alcohol, her inhibitions vanish and she becomes uninhibited and somewhat daffy, leading to awkward situations.
Her role in the story is that of the team’s psychic specialist, providing crucial support for Rio and Maya Jingu during their missions. At first, her powers are considered so volatile that she must wear magnetic restraints on her wrists and ankles—restraints normally reserved for A-class criminals. Over the course of the series, her positive interactions with Rio and the others help her gain confidence, and her psychic abilities grow stronger to the point that the restraints become unnecessary.
Lilica’s notable abilities include a modified form of telepathic dowsing, in which she uses a crystal pendant and a map to locate criminals or pinpoint where a crime may occur. She can also mentally scan a room using clue words to pick up impressions from people’s thoughts. Another talent is a form of automatic drawing: when she lets her hand move freely, it produces scribbles that, upon analysis, often contain clues to a crime. Beyond these practiced techniques, she possesses additional psychic powers that can manifest involuntarily under stress, sometimes with unpredictable results.
Her key relationships are with her fellow Warriors. She looks up to Rio as a mentor figure and comes to regard both Rio and Maya as true friends, a bond that helps her emerge from her shell. This personal growth is the core of her development in the series, as she transitions from a frightened, restrained girl into a more confident and capable member of the team.
