Description
Miaouss, the feline Pokémon from the Pokémon Chronicles side series, is a member of Team Rocket and one of its most distinctive characters due to his ability to walk upright and speak human language. His background is rooted in a desire for acceptance and love. Originally an ordinary Meowth living on the streets, he fell in love with a wealthy female Meowth named Meowsie. To impress her, he taught himself to walk on two legs and speak like a human, but his efforts backfired; Meowsie considered him a freak and rejected him. Heartbroken, Miaouss joined Team Rocket, as the word "Rocket" was the first human word he had ever said. This origin story is explored in episodes of Pokémon Chronicles, such as Training Daze, which also shows how he met his partners Jessie and James during their training at Team Rocket's academy.

Personality-wise, Miaouss is cunning, imaginative, and often greedy, frequently devising elaborate schemes to steal Pokémon, especially Ash Ketchum's Pikachu. He has a strong desire for wealth, status, and the approval of his boss, Giovanni. Despite his selfish tendencies, he displays loyalty to his teammates and occasionally shows kindness to other Pokémon. He is also deeply insecure about his unique abilities, which set him apart from other Meowth, and he harbors a lasting resentment toward Persian, as the leader of his old street gang was a Persian who took Meowsie's affection. In Pokémon Chronicles, his personality is further explored in episodes like Of Meowth and Pokémon, where he takes a break from his usual schemes and works odd jobs in Big Town, eventually finding unexpected friendship with a group of wild Pokémon.

Miaouss's role in Pokémon Chronicles is often that of a comedic antagonist or reluctant protagonist. He appears in several side stories away from the main series, such as Big Meowth, Little Dreams, where he tries to build a golden statue, and Of Meowth and Pokémon, which focuses on his interactions with the Pichu brothers and other Pokémon. In Training Daze, his backstory is expanded, showing how he became a full-fledged Team Rocket agent. He is also involved in episodes with other Team Rocket members like Butch and Cassidy, often providing comic relief through his failed plots and his habit of translating Pokémon speech for his human partners.

Key relationships include his close partnership with Jessie and James, with whom he forms a loyal trio. Despite frequent arguments and failures, they share a genuine bond and stick together through thick and thin. His relationship with his old love Meowsie is a source of pain and motivation, and his rivalry with the Persian leader of his former gang is a recurring theme. In Pokémon Chronicles, he also interacts with Pikachu and other of Ash's Pokémon in a more nuanced way, sometimes showing grudging respect or temporary alliances.

In terms of development, Miaouss grows from a purely selfish character to one capable of empathy and teamwork. Episodes like Of Meowth and Pokémon show him learning the value of friendship over material wealth. He also gains a deeper understanding of his own worth, even if his ambition to steal Pikachu never truly fades.

Notable abilities include his unique talent of speaking and walking on two legs, which he uses to communicate with humans and understand other Pokémon. He is a skilled strategist and often the brains behind Team Rocket's operations. In battle, he can use moves such as Scratch, Fury Swipes, and Pay Day, though he never learned the latter because he devoted his energy to learning to talk. When sufficiently angered, he can become a formidable fighter, as seen in some episodes where he defeats much stronger opponents. His most distinctive trait remains his ability to bridge the gap between Pokémon and humans through speech, a power that defines his entire character.
