Description
Hillary Tachibana, known as Hiromi Tachibana in the original Japanese version, is a character introduced in the second season of the original Beyblade series and continues to play a significant role in Beyblade: G-Revolution. She is a student at Tyson Granger's school and holds the position of class president, a role she takes very seriously. Her initial interaction with Tyson is marked by conflict, as she is frequently frustrated with his truancy and lack of discipline following his World Championship victory, often using her authority to assign him detention or cleaning duties.
At the start of her appearance, Hillary holds a low opinion of Beyblading, dismissing it as a stupid game. However, after spending time with the Bladebreakers, she gradually warms up to the sport and becomes a close ally to the team. Unlike the primary bladers, Hillary does not possess a Bit-Beast and is not an official battling member of the team. Instead, she serves as the manager, the voice of reason, and an assistant coach, especially in G-Revolution when the team's leadership structure changes.
Hillary is characterized by a strong-willed and often bossy personality, which naturally stems from her leadership at school. She is described as a tomboy who is not afraid to be loud or argumentative, particularly with Tyson, making her one of the few people capable of keeping him in line. Despite this tough exterior, she is fundamentally a kind, caring, and fiercely loyal individual. Her friendship with the Bladebreakers is notably deeper than her previous friendships, as she had never been very close to anyone before meeting them.
Her role in G-Revolution highlights her maturity and sense of responsibility. She remains with Tyson as his manager even after the original Bladebreakers disband and go their separate ways, demonstrating her dedication. Her personality continues to evolve in this season; she becomes more mature and responsible while also revealing more of her feminine side. A running gag throughout the series involves her poor cooking skills, which she insists on using to take care of team members like Tyson and Daichi, often with unpleasant results.
Hillary shares a key relationship with Tyson Granger, marked by frequent bickering and arguments, though this dynamic hides a deep-seated care and respect, with hints suggesting she may have a small crush on him. She also interacts with the younger blader Daichi Sumeragi, who affectionately but annoyingly nicknames her Grandma. In terms of abilities, Hillary is not a skilled blader herself. One notable event in G-Revolution involves her attempting to use a Beyblade named Hopper, which she steals, but she fails spectacularly in her attempt to battle with it.
