Description
Mokomoko is a supporting character in the anime Dragon Warrior, also known as Dragon Quest: Yuusha Abel Densetsu. He is presented as a stocky, muscular young man who serves as the comic relief of the group. His personality is boisterous, good-natured, and marked by a voracious appetite that matches his physical strength. He is described as a chikaramochi, or strongman, and he takes pride in his ability to fight with clubs and his raw power.

Mokomoko’s primary motivation stems from his deep fondness for Tiala, a young inventor and one of the main heroines. He harbors a strong admiration for her and often competes for her attention, which leads to a playful but persistent jealousy toward Abel, the main hero. This rivalry adds a dynamic tension to the early parts of the journey, though Mokomoko remains a loyal companion to the group.

His role in the story is that of a dependable ally and occasional source of levity. At the beginning of the adventure, Mokomoko helps nurse Abel back to health after Abel is injured in an attack by Baramos. He then joins Abel on the quest to rescue Tiala from Baramos’s flying fortress. Throughout the series, Mokomoko travels with Abel, Tiala, the wizard Yanak, the fighter Daisy, and later other allies such as Deeding. He often stumbles into trouble through his impulsive actions, such as accidentally opening a secret passage in ruins, but he also contributes in combat, notably wielding clubs as his primary weapons. In one encounter, he fights a Metal Slime, which breaks his clubs and forces him to purchase new equipment.

Mokomoko’s key relationships are defined by his affection for Tiala and his rivalry with Abel. He is also close to the rest of the party, participating in their side quests and battles. His development is understated but culminates in a moment of selflessness. In the final confrontation, after Baramos steals the Holy Sword and Cup and cuts the throat of the Legendary Dragon, Baramos attempts to drink the dragon’s blood to gain eternal life. Mokomoko intervenes by knocking the cup out of Baramos’s hand, a brave act that angers the villain and leads to Baramos killing him. This sacrifice allows the dragon to grow to full size and ultimately turn the tide of the battle.

Notable abilities include his superhuman strength, which he uses to wield heavy clubs effectively. He has no magical powers, relying solely on physical prowess and his resilience. His role as comic relief often involves his huge appetite and his exaggerated reactions to situations, but his loyalty and final sacrifice demonstrate a hidden depth of courage.
