Movie
Description
Kuririn is a short, bald young monk who arrives at the remote island of Master Roshi seeking martial arts training. He presents himself as a devoted prospective student, but his ambition reveals a more calculating side. When Roshi initially refuses, Kuririn produces a bribe of adult magazines to change the hermit’s mind. During this first encounter he meets Goku, a boy of similar age, and is perplexed by Goku‘s inability to tell that Kuririn‘s shaved head is different from natural baldness.
Kuririn‘s personality in the movie is defined by a mix of cunning, competitiveness, and a faint sense of insecurity. He quickly sees Goku as a rival and is determined to be the one accepted as Roshi‘s pupil. On the journey to Devil‘s Castle he repeatedly uses tricks to slow Goku down, such as throwing a stone to misdirect him, showing that he is willing to bend the rules to achieve his goal. Beneath this scheming exterior, however, lies a genuine desire to prove himself and earn the status and strength that come with being Roshi‘s student.
His primary motivation is to win the contest Roshi sets up: retrieve the Sleeping Princess from the castle and become the master‘s trainee. This drives his actions throughout the adventure. At the outset he treats the quest as a solo competition and regards Goku as an obstacle rather than an ally.
As the story progresses, Kuririn gets drawn into a more dangerous situation than he anticipated. While searching the monster-filled castle, he and Goku fight ogres and other creatures together. Kuririn demonstrates his martial arts skill and agility in these clashes, holding his own against the supernatural threats. When the demon lord Lucifer captures Kuririn and threatens his life to force Goku to surrender the Sleeping Princess, Kuririn‘s fear is evident, but the moment also sparks a change. Watching Goku take a brutal beating for his sake leaves Kuririn visibly distressed, an early sign that his self-centered attitude is softening.
During the chaos that follows when Goku transforms into a rampaging Great Ape, Kuririn works alongside Yamcha to grab and weaken the beast by its tail, allowing Puar to cut it off and restore Goku to normal. In the final confrontation inside the castle, Kuririn returns to fight alongside Goku and Yamcha against Lucifer, helping to stop the villain‘s plan to destroy the sun. After the castle collapses and the danger passes, he does not directly apologize for his earlier behavior, but his actions speak of a growing sense of camaraderie.
By the end of the movie, Kuririn has developed from a sneaky, self-interested rival into a more genuine companion. When Roshi, misunderstanding events, decides to accept both boys as students after they bring back a bewildered Launch, Kuririn happily accepts the shared outcome rather than insisting on winning alone. His journey in the film is a brief but complete arc: from underhanded competition to reluctant cooperation and finally to the beginning of a true friendship with Goku, forged through mortal danger and mutual reliance.
