Description
In the anime Nanaka 6/17, Kuriko Aratama is a supporting character who appears as a very young kindergartener. She is easily recognizable by her long blonde hair styled in twin tails and her brown eyes. Physically she is a small child, and her appearance reflects her age through simple dresses and occasionally a beret or bow.

Kuriko’s background is lightly sketched but carries a strong emotional catalyst. She developed a deep, adoring crush on Nenji Nagihara after he rescued her from a group of bullies. This protective act reminded her of her older brother, who is away attending school, and Nenji’s resemblance to him strengthened her attachment. From that moment onward, Kuriko becomes completely smitten and determined to win his affection.

Her personality is that of a sincere but fiercely jealous little girl. She is stubborn about her feelings and does not hesitate to act on them, often inserting herself into situations involving Nenji. Though still a child, she shows a surprising amount of determination and emotional intensity when it comes to what she sees as her romantic pursuit. Because she perceives Nanaka Kirisato as her direct rival for Nenji’s attention, Kuriko frequently squabbles with Nanaka, proving to be combative and possessive despite her age. That rivalry is played for comedy but also demonstrates how seriously Kuriko takes her one-sided love.

Kuriko’s primary motivation is to be noticed and loved by Nenji. Everything she does, from following him around to confronting Nanaka, circles back to that simple, earnest goal. She wants Nenji to see her as someone special, not just a little kid, and she envies any attention he gives to Nanaka.

In terms of her role in the story, Kuriko serves as a minor but recurring source of lighthearted conflict. Her crush on Nenji and her hostile dynamic with Nanaka add a playful, sometimes chaotic, element to the otherwise more dramatic and romantic plotlines. She helps highlight Nenji’s kinder, protective side while also giving Nanaka an unusual rival: a child whose feelings are pure and intense.

Kuriko’s key relationships are defined by her feelings for Nenji and her resulting antagonism with Nanaka. She showers Nenji with affection and follows him around, clearly wanting to be near him as much as possible. With Nanaka, she is openly competitive, picking arguments and treating her as a genuine obstacle. Her relationship with her absent older brother, though unseen, underpins why she latched onto Nenji so strongly. She gravitates toward any protector figure, but in Nenji’s case that admiration turned into a crush.

Over the course of the series, Kuriko does not undergo drastic change. Her feelings for Nenji remain steadfast, and she continues to view Nanaka as a rival. The situations she creates often lead to humorous, awkward moments that reinforce the love-triangle tension surrounding Nenji without being resolved. What little development exists lies in her gradual, grudging recognition that Nanaka is not easily pushed aside, yet Kuriko never truly gives up on her own attachment.

Notable abilities are few, as Kuriko is an ordinary kindergarten-aged child. Her most prominent traits are her sheer emotional persistence and her talent for causing a stir whenever Nenji and Nanaka are together. Beyond typical childhood behavior, she does not possess any special skills or powers within the story.
