Description
Bocoe is a silver, humanoid robot who serves as one of Doctor Eggman's personal assistants in the anime Sonic X. He is easily distinguished by his short and stout build, possessing a wide, rounded torso and a large, circular head, which stands in stark contrast to his counterpart, Decoe, who is tall, thin, and gold in color. As a creation of Doctor Eggman, Bocoe's primary function is to aid the doctor in his various schemes, and he is almost never far from his master's side.

In terms of personality, Bocoe is generally portrayed as absent-minded, clumsy, and not particularly intelligent, which often makes him a source of comic relief. Despite his shortcomings, he is not malicious. Like his partner Decoe, Bocoe exhibits genuine emotions; he has been seen crying and seems to have human-like feelings, including empathy for other robots who fall out of Eggman's favor. He is also known to be somewhat insubordinate in private, frequently making snide remarks and quipping about Eggman's failed plans, poor decisions, and even his weight, though he typically does so behind the doctor's back. Bocoe dislikes hard labor and can experience needs such as fatigue and hunger. He also shares a common fantasy with Decoe about being able to combine into a powerful, super-robot battle form, though this remains merely a dream.

Bocoe's role in the story is that of a henchman and assistant rather than a direct combatant. He helps operate Eggman's various machines and bases, and is often tasked with overseeing the progress of the doctor's plans. While he displays little aptitude for direct fighting, he is a capable pilot, able to operate a variety of vehicles and Eggman's advanced technology. Despite his comical ineptitude, he has demonstrated notable abilities. He possesses surprising physical strength, as he and Decoe were able to carry the powerful Master Emerald and even physically overwhelm the enemy Black Narcissus. His most distinctive ability is the power to combine with Decoe. One combination, the Bokkun Beacon, involves Bocoe sitting atop Decoe to project a spotlight from his eyes to summon their messenger robot companion, Bokkun. Another, more useful combat combination allows the two to physically merge into a powerful energy cannon. He is also highly durable, having survived being blasted apart by a powerful monster.

Bocoe's key relationships define much of his role. He is almost always seen with his partner Decoe, and the two function as a single unit with complementary roles, where Decoe is often the brains and Bocoe the one who carries out their plans. Their relationship with their creator, Doctor Eggman, is complex. While they are programmed to serve him and address him formally, they frequently complain about his mistreatment, which can be both physical and psychological. This tension came to a head when Eggman abandoned them; after being saved by the human boy Chris Thorndyke, Bocoe and Decoe briefly turned against the doctor and worked for the Thorndyke family as helpful robotic butlers, a period in which they seemed genuinely happier. Eggman was secretly pleased to have them back after this rebellion, though he quickly hid this behind a facade of anger. Their relationship with Chris is also significant, as they grew to like him and were willing to protect him, even offering him a place in the Eggman Empire. They are constantly irritated by the antics of their fellow robot, Bokkun, though they are easily swayed by his cooking.

Throughout the series, Bocoe experiences a notable but temporary development. Initially standard, somewhat sarcastic henchmen, the constant failures and increasing mistreatment from Eggman led them to become disillusioned with villainy. Their rescue by Chris Thorndyke allowed them to experience kindness, leading to a brief period where they served as benevolent robots in the Thorndyke residence. This character growth, however, was largely reset in later story arcs, where they reverted to their more familiar roles as Eggman's goofy and eager-to-please henchmen.
