Description
Eolia is the daughter of Aeolus, the powerful master of the cosmic winds, and appears in the anime Ulysses 31. She is a young girl with fair skin and a svelte build, characterized by her strawberry blonde, curly bob hairstyle with curled bangs and her green eyes. Her attire consists of a white, shin-length toga dress with a cowl neckline and pleated short sleeves, secured with a blue belt. On her feet are pink sandals with white straps and small mechanical wings, which are known as aero-shoes and grant her the ability to fly. She also wears a distinctive hair clip shaped like a small spacecraft.
In terms of personality, Eolia is depicted as a sweet, peaceful, and deeply compassionate individual. She possesses a strong sense of empathy and justice, which sets her apart from her father's cruel and domineering nature. Unlike Aeolus, who sees the crew of the Odyssey as mere playthings, Eolia is loving and brave, demonstrating a selfless willingness to protect others, even at great personal risk.
Eolia's primary motivation throughout her encounter with Ulysses is to put a stop to her father's sadistic games. When Aeolus captures Ulysses, his son Telemachus, Yumi, and the robot Nono to use them as forced entertainment for her birthday, Eolia is horrified and wants nothing to do with the spectacle. Unable to bear watching the perilous games, which include a deadly treasure hunt, a life-and-death chess match, and being tossed inside a giant pinball machine, she takes action. She secretly frees Telemachus and the others from their prison, guiding them through a secret passageway to help them reach the crucial treasure chest.
Her role in the story is that of a reluctant princess and the moral center of the episode, acting as a crucial ally to the protagonists from within the enemy's stronghold. She directly defies her father's authority, using her knowledge of the ship to aid the captives and even sabotaging his control device to end the deadly games. This act of betrayal leads Aeolus to imprison her alongside Ulysses as punishment, showing how far she is willing to go to defend her principles.
The key relationship in Eolia's story is with her father, Aeolus. She loves him but is deeply disappointed by his cruelty and disregard for life. Her intervention leads to a dramatic climax where, after Telemachus threatens to use the destructive power of the magic stone against Aeolus, Eolia throws herself into the path of the energy beam to save her father. This selfless sacrifice causes her to collapse, which finally makes Aeolus realize the error of his ways. Grieving over his daughter, he has a complete change of heart, renouncing his cruel games and releasing the prisoners. Eolia survives the incident, and her near-death experience serves as the catalyst for her father's redemption, reconciling with him as they watch the Odyssey depart. Her notable abilities include her aero-shoes, which activate with lights at the heels to allow flight, and her knowledge of the secret passages and workings of her father's vast ship.
