Description
Noburu is a main character in the futuristic anime Shin Hakkenden. Her past is marked by profound tragedy. As a child, she was involved with a rebel organization and witnessed the massacre of her parents at the hands of the Owari army. She was separated from her brother Jinrai during childhood and grew up deeply exposed to war. This traumatic upbringing shaped her into a very headstrong, rough, and warlike individual with a serious-minded and dour personality. She is known for being stoic, often criticizing her teammates for not taking their missions seriously, and she maintains a permanent scowl for much of the story.

Her motivations are driven by loss and a desire for vengeance. She initially refuses to accept that Jinrai is her brother because she believes the group he was forced to join killed their parents, and she finds this unacceptable. She fights primarily out of a need for revenge, first for her parents and later for her fallen comrades. When her friends are killed, this loss awakens the latent power within her, pushing her to seek retribution.

In the story, Noburu serves as a capable and determined fighter. She is skilled with a bow and is noted as an excellent war strategist. Her primary weapon is a small jagged-edged knife set with a pink jewel, which her parents gave to her in their final moments. For a long time, she fights using this weapon unaware that the jewel is one of the eight sacred jewels. Her role in the group becomes more defined after she awakens the jewel's power following the death of her comrades, at which point she joins the primary cast, partly to continue her pursuit of revenge.

Her key relationships are defined by conflict and eventual resolution. The most significant bond is with her brother Jinrai. She spends much of the story refusing to acknowledge their sibling connection and blaming him for their parents' death. However, a crucial turning point in her development occurs when she finally forgives Jinrai, marking a major step in her emotional growth. She also interacts with Kou, having helped him once early on, and her journey becomes intertwined with the other bearers of the jewels.

Her notable abilities include her skill as a bow-wielder and her strategic mind in warfare. She is also an action-oriented fighter. Her most significant power is tied to the pink jewel in her knife, which she eventually awakens. This jewel is one of the eight divine jewels central to the series' plot, granting her enhanced capabilities once its energy is unlocked. Throughout the series, she moves from a place of anger and blame to one of forgiveness, completing an arc of personal development that allows her to reconcile with her brother and find a new sense of purpose.
