Description
Licorice Nielsen, also known as Lycoris Neilson, is an original anime-exclusive character who appears in the second season, Orphen: The Revenge. She is a teenage girl with short brown hair and brown eyes, typically wearing glasses, a hairband, a bow, and a dress. Her glasses are a recurring trait, as she has a tendency to lose them, reflecting her clumsy nature.

Her background is initially shrouded in mystery. She presents herself as the head of the Royal Public Service Protection Knights, a B‑Rank Knight serving as the secret informant for the commander of the Third Battalion of the Public Service and Protection Department. She has been charged with the duty of bringing the sorcerer Orphen back with her to join the Royal Knights, and she refuses to leave his side until he agrees. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that she is being watched over by Esperanza Reika, who is later revealed to be her older sister.

Personality‑wise, Licorice is kind, sweet, and shy, yet also determined and stubborn when pursuing her goals. She is somewhat clumsy and absent‑minded, especially with her glasses, but she possesses a quiet strength and a sense of purpose. Despite her official mission, she is often unaware of the deeper mysteries surrounding her own situation.

Licorice’s role in the story is that of a new companion who joins Orphen and his existing group—Cleao Everlasting, Majic Lin, and the dragon Leki—on their travels. Her arrival sets in motion a new adventure separate from the events of the first series. She quickly forms a close bond with Cleao, who comes to see her as a younger sister. Her presence also serves to gradually uncover a larger conspiracy involving the Royal Knights and Esperanza.

In terms of abilities, Licorice is not shown as a combatant or a sorcerer. Instead, she is accompanied by a small, floating pink creature named Pamu. Pamu is able to produce various items from its mouth on command, such as money, reports, or handkerchiefs, providing practical support during the journey. Beyond this, Licorice relies on her wits, her persistence, and the protection of those around her.

Throughout the series, Licorice undergoes subtle development as she becomes more comfortable with her companions and gains a clearer understanding of her own past and the true intentions of those around her. Her initially straightforward mission becomes entangled with personal revelations, particularly concerning her connection to Esperanza. By the end of her arc, she grows from a determined but sheltered knight into a more self‑aware young woman.
