TV-Series
Description
Hayato Shingu is the central protagonist of the series, a young man driven by a deep and passionate sense of justice that often manifests as impulsive and aggressive action. He is characterized by his incredibly volatile emotions, capable of shifting rapidly from explosive rage to profound shock and sorrow in an instant. Despite this volatility, his core motivation is a powerful desire to protect the helpless and confront evil wherever he finds it, leaping into danger without a moment's hesitation.
His life was shattered at the age of seven when his home village was burned to the ground by the secret organization known as Egrigori. During this traumatic event, Hayato witnessed the murder of his parents at the hands of an agent named Keith Black, who also severed Hayato's own left arm. This lost limb was later replaced by his ARMS unit, a parasitic mechanical life form named the White Knight, or simply Knight. Following the tragedy, Hayato was taken in by his grandfather, Juzo, who trained him rigorously in the Shingu family style of martial arts.
Haunted by the deaths of his parents, Hayato initially lived for nothing but revenge. He spent years hunting down and destroying agents of Egrigori wherever he could find them, his hatred serving as his primary fuel. However, his path led him to cross with other individuals who also possess ARMS: Ryo Takatsuki, Takeshi Tomoe, and Kei Kuruma. Initially mistaking Ryo for an enemy, Hayato soon realized they were allies. Through these relationships, he began to gain greater self-control, self-awareness, and compassion.
His character arc is defined by the gradual abandonment of his vengeful quest. As he learns to fight not out of hatred for his enemies but out of a genuine desire to protect his friends, he evolves from a destroyer into a true guardian. This fundamental shift in his spirit is what allows him to unlock the full potential of his ARMS. His relationship with his fellow ARMS wielder, Kei Kuruma, is particularly significant. Though they frequently clashed and argued at first, the pair grow closer through their shared battles, and by the story's end, they have entered a long-term romantic relationship.
Hayato's primary ability is his ARMS unit, White Knight, which resides in his left arm. In its most basic form, the Knight allows him to heal from injuries at an accelerated rate far beyond that of a normal human. In partial transformation, the arm can morph into various combat forms, producing multiple fighting blades that are said to be an incredibly hard substance, as well as a projectile launcher for ranged attacks. The strength and effectiveness of these weapons are directly linked to Hayato's emotional state and skill level.
The White Knight's ultimate form is triggered not by anger, but by a pure, selfless will to protect others. When activated, it transforms Hayato into a powerful armored knight wielding the "Lance of Mistilteinn." This lance is a specialized weapon capable of destroying other ARMS units by injecting them with an Anti-ARMS Nano-Virus, effectively negating their powerful regenerative abilities. In addition to his ARMS, Hayato is also a highly skilled martial artist, having mastered the Shingu style from his grandfather. Through his personal growth and the calming influence of his allies, he also learns the "Heart of Water" technique, a mental discipline that allows him to read his opponent's movements and anticipate their next attack with remarkable clarity.
