Description
Gauss Gall is a character from the anime Project ARMS, serving as a primary antagonist and the leader of the elite special forces unit known as the Red Caps, which operates under the secret organization Egrigori. His background is rooted in a military career; during the 1980s, he held the rank of Colonel and was a seasoned master of psychological warfare. By the time the story takes place, he was advanced in age and confined to a bedridden state. Seeking to return to the battlefield he loved, Gall accepted an offer from Egrigori, which provided him with a rejuvenated, younger body through experimental procedures.

In terms of personality, Gauss Gall is characterized by his profound cruelty and a deep-seated love for the chaos of war. He is a despicable and heartless individual who prefers to employ psychological terror over direct confrontation. His tactics are consistently underhanded and manipulative, relying on fear, misinformation, and the exploitation of innocents to achieve his objectives. A notable example from his past, which earned him infamy, involved a mission for a South American dictator. There, he used rumors and hostage situations to turn the populace against a revolutionary army, and when the dictator grew fearful of his own citizens, Gall exterminated the populace with a neutron bomb without hesitation. This pattern is repeated during his operations in Project ARMS, where he is shown killing a pleading father in front of his own child as a means of psychological manipulation.

Gauss Gall's primary motivation is purely the thrill of combat and strategic domination. His desire to return to the battlefield was so strong that he consented to Egrigori's experiments, fully embracing his new role as the head of the Red Caps. In the story, his main role is to hunt down the protagonists who possess the original ARMS. He leads the assault on Isora City, where his forces successfully annihilate the X-ARMY resistance group and corner the main characters through a meticulously planned psychological warfare campaign he calls the Snake Hunt.

Key relationships are largely operational. He commands the Red Caps unit, which, like him, are clones or enhanced soldiers provided by Egrigori. His primary adversaries are the ARMS wielders, including main characters such as Ryo Takatsuki and Alice, whom he attempts to capture or eliminate. A significant subordinate relationship exists with a character named Java, whom Gall incapacitates using a substance called Venom to eliminate a threat to his plans.

Development for Gauss Gall is marked by his failure and subsequent demise. Although his Snake Hunt operation in Isora City initially succeeds, unforeseen variables and the actions of the protagonists cause it to unravel. As he attempts to flee from his defeat, the critical flaw in Egrigori's enhancements is revealed: being a clone, his body suffers from an incredibly accelerated aging process. He undergoes rapid, catastrophic aging and dies on the spot, a grim end that underscores the disposable nature of Egrigori's experiments.

His notable abilities lie not in raw physical power but in psychological warfare and military strategy. He is an old master of manipulating enemy morale and civillian populations. However, his physical capabilities are a direct result of Egrigori's technology, which granted him a youthful body. The instability of this enhancement, leading to rapid aging, is a defining weakness that ultimately proves fatal.
