Description
Ai Shinozaki, also known as Corrector Ai, is a central character introduced in the second season of the anime. She is a second-year middle school student who initially presents as a dark, mysterious, and emotionally distant girl. This cold and apathetic demeanor serves as a mask to protect herself, rooted in a deeply painful family history. Her father died in an accident when she was young, and her mother, Azusa, has been left in a coma following an accident within the net. This tragic background is the primary driver for her actions, as she is desperate to find a way to wake her mother.

Her personal life is marked by isolation. She lives with her aunt's family, including her cousin Shun Toujou, and attends the drama club at school, though she does not form close bonds with its members. Ai is highly capable and intelligent, demonstrating proficiency with computers to the point of being able to crack security codes. Her motivation to become a Corrector is entirely personal. Unlike other human Correctors who were chosen by Dr. Inukai, Ai acquires her black ComCon through other means, facilitated by a teddy bear belonging to a mysterious missing little girl known as I-chan. She believes this girl is connected to her mother's condition and becomes a Corrector to search for her, hoping that finding I-chan will provide the key to saving Azusa. She is initially distrusted by the other Correctors, though Dr. Inukai perceives that she is not a bad person and allows her to keep her ComCon after she promises to return it once her personal mission is complete.

In her role within the story, Ai operates largely as a solitary agent, performing her duties to eliminate computer viruses with cold, no-nonsense efficiency. Her key relationships are defined by a gradual thawing of her icy exterior. She initially despises the series' protagonist, Yui Kasuga, viewing her as a naive nuisance. However, Yui’s persistent compassion and optimistic view of life slowly break through Ai's defenses. Yui and her friend Haruna eventually succeed in befriending Ai, which becomes a turning point in her emotional development. Throughout the series, she evolves from a guarded and bitter individual, envious of Yui's harmonious family life, into someone who can open her heart and express her feelings, even smiling and waving to her friends by the final episode.

As a Corrector, Ai possesses a unique set of abilities. Her transformation phrase is Corrector Ai, Time to Decide, and she wears a distinctive Corrector suit, often hiding her face behind black goggles that have become her mysterious trademark. She is a capable fighter, able to handle virus threats on her own from the very beginning. Like the other Correctors, she can utilize Elemental Suits based on the classical elements: Wind, Earth, Water, and Fire. Notably, the color schemes and appearances of her Elemental Suits sometimes differ from those used by Yui and Haruna, marking her powers as unique. Her skills and aloof nature initially categorize her as an aloof ally and an anti-heroine, as she pursues her own goals rather than aligning herself with the team.
