Movie
Description
Gaston serves as the second-in-command of the Band of the Falcon's raiders, a unit led by the formidable swordsman Guts. He has a gentle, though worn, face and neatly keeps his black hair tied back in a ponytail.

His background reveals a practical dream that stands in contrast to his life of violence. While speaking with Casca, Guts reveals that Gaston's ambition was not for glory or land, but to save enough of his mercenary earnings to open a clothing shop in the royal capital of Wyndham. This desire was born from his notable dexterity, as Guts remarked that Gaston was surprisingly skilled with his hands despite his rough exterior.

Personality-wise, three years after Guts joined the band, Gaston became known for his deep and genuine respect for his commander, viewing him as both a superior officer and a close friend. He is typically seen in a cheerful and optimistic mood, taking great pleasure in celebrating victories with his comrades. Despite his ambitions for a peaceful life as a shopkeeper, he never regretted his time with the Falcons. When the band was outlawed and forced into exile, he showed no disappointment in his situation but rather joy, asserting that his true place was with the unit and that the raiders were his family. However, this loyalty had a timid edge, as he was occasionally awkward when trying to restrain Guts from his most impulsive actions.

Gaston's role in the story is that of a steadfast supporter and a grounding presence within the raiders. He functions as Guts’ most loyal subordinate, often seen managing the unit during celebrations or tense moments. After the Band of the Falcon achieves its goal and Griffith is imprisoned, Gaston actually leaves to pursue his dream of the clothing shop. Yet, as soon as he hears that his former comrades have been declared outlaws and are being pursued, he abandons his shop without hesitation to rejoin them. Upon learning of the band's dire circumstances and Griffith's crippled state, he reaffirms his commitment by requesting to follow Guts.

Regarding key relationships, his bond with Guts is the most significant. He admires Guts immensely and is one of the few members who can speak to him with familiarity. He is also shown to be a reliable colleague to other band members, such as Judeau, whom he coordinates with in the field. His connection to the larger group is defined by a familial loyalty that overrides personal ambition.

In terms of development, Gaston undergoes a small but telling arc: he moves from being a mercenary dreaming of a quiet future, to temporarily achieving that peace, only to willingly return to a life of danger out of loyalty to his found family. Just before his death during the Eclipse, Gaston displays a moment of striking self-awareness, remarking to Guts that he felt like a minor character in some crazy story. He is the last of the band members to encounter Guts after the sacrifice begins. Appearing before his commander, severely injured and bleeding, he expresses happiness that they are alive and can meet again. Before Guts can save him, an apostle bursts from within Gaston's skull, killing him instantly.

Concerning notable abilities, the full extent of his combat prowess is never explicitly demonstrated in action. However, as the designated second-in-command of Guts’ raiders, it is strongly implied that he is a competent fighter and likely possesses some strategic acumen to hold such a position. Beyond combat, his most distinctive ability is his craft of tailoring, as he is dexterous enough to create clothing, which he proved capable of turning into a professional trade.
