Description
Kuuko Karahari is a supporting character who studies at the same Tokyo university as Kyouhei Kuga and Hibino Shiba, acting as their eccentric classmate. She is the daughter of Kyousuke Karahari, a detective investigating a murder case with ties to the remote Karakami Village. Growing weary of ordinary life, she developed a deep fascination with the supernatural, yet grew frustrated after repeatedly chasing leads that proved to be hoaxes. That changes when she accidentally witnesses Utao Kuga commanding the wooden god Kukuri, and her search suddenly becomes tangible. Overjoyed by the proof of genuine paranormal phenomena, she forces herself into the ongoing conflict involving the ancient kakashi and their psychic controllers.

In terms of personality, Kuuko is headstrong, intellectually driven, and unafraid of extreme measures. She operates a nearly defunct university club where she pursues her investigations, and she does not hesitate to capture, detain, and aggressively interrogate anyone who might provide answers. This is starkly illustrated when the injured Aki Kuga lands near her after a battle; she drags him to her apartment and grills him for information about the kakashi, going as far as using torture to extract details. Despite her intense methods, she is also fiercely curious and plainly thrilled to have her lifelong interest validated, lending her a kind of manic enthusiasm that blurs the line between ally and wild card.

Her role in the story revolves around uncovering the secrets of the kakashi and the hidden history of the Kuga and Hyūga clans. After Aki decides to hide out in her apartment, she becomes a reluctant safe harbour and an information hub of sorts, though her involvement often complicates matters for the main cast. She provides occasional assistance but remains motivated primarily by her own relentless curiosity rather than any sense of loyalty to Kyouhei or his sister.

Kuuko’s key relationships are defined by proximity and opportunism. She shares a friendship with Hibino Shiba, having been classmates, and is the child of the detective investigating the very corpse Kyouhei and Hibino discovered, which tangles her family life into the central mystery. Her dynamic with Aki is particularly unusual: she kidnaps him, interrogates him, and later allows him to stay, forming an uneasy cohabitation where she continues to probe his knowledge while he uses her home as a refuge. With Kyouhei, the connection is strained; he is wary of her intrusive curiosity and her disregard for personal boundaries.

Over the course of events, Kuuko remains a morally ambiguous figure whose fascination never wanes. She does not undergo a dramatic moral transformation, but her sustained contact with the kakashi and their users deepens her understanding and cements her place as a persistent outsider who has forced her way into a hidden world. Her development is more about acceptance by the main group and the use of her intelligence in crisis moments rather than a change in core personality.

Notable abilities are intellectual rather than supernatural. Kuuko has no kakashi of her own and no innate spiritual power, but she is a sharp, resourceful researcher with a talent for gathering and interpreting occult information. Her background as a detective’s daughter may have sharpened her investigative instincts. She is willing to go to extreme lengths, using both psychological pressure and physical force, to break through the secrecy surrounding the village’s traditions. Visually, she is recognisable by her glasses and her distinctive pale or light-coloured hair.
