Description
Ryō Hokari bears deep resentment toward Bottleman, stemming from his father Io's harsh training during childhood and Io's perceived neglect of his ill mother, Eri. He views the sport solely as a tool for rebellion. His aunt Machiko exploits this bitterness, manipulating him into returning to Bottle Battling for revenge against Io. As a competitor, he wields the speed-type Bottleman Aquasports DX, utilizing water-based attacks like the Prongs of Poseidon technique firing three caps. He initially treats Aquasports DX as a mere victory instrument, reflecting his cynicism. His appearance features blue hair with yellow streaks, purple eyes, purple earrings, a grey T-shirt, a blue jacket with gold accents, dark blue pants, and black boots.
A turning point occurs when Aquasports DX is equipped with the experimental Vital Sync system, causing Ryō to lose emotional control and inflict excessive destruction. Intervention by Io and rival Cota Coga's philosophy helps him rediscover his passion for the sport. Reconciling with his father marks the start of his emotional recovery, leading him to treat Aquasports DX and others with greater respect and sportsmanship.
Following this transformation, he collaborates with allies Seimei and Roland to investigate Machiko and Professor Rootbeer, later infiltrating BMA headquarters to confront an AI hijacking the system. During this mission, he gains insight into Machiko's motivations and reconciles with her. After defeating rival Leo Kinjishi, his ranking rises to Bottle Star #10.
Despite his competitive success, he resigns from active battling to succeed Io as BMA President. He temporarily returns to participate in the Bottle King deciding Bottle Royale, seeking excitement. In the series climax, he and Cota undertake a mission to defeat the AI threat Blastboss, preventing humanity's regression. Their combined Sparkling Nova attack overpowers Blastboss, and both survive the subsequent explosion through sheer determination to battle each other again, culminating in a final match. His character arc culminates in a balance of seriousness and newfound kindness, maintaining his competitive spirit while embracing cooperation and forgiveness.
