TV-Series
Description
Dr. Ziggurat is the primary antagonist of Beyblade: Metal Masters. Earlier in his career, he was a doctor specializing in cranial nerves and an authority in energy engineering, but he eventually withdrew from official federations and associations to pursue his own ambitions. He became the CEO and Chairman of Hades Incorporated, the owner and founder of the HD Academy training facility, and the creator and manager of the American blading team, Star Breaker. His physical appearance is notable for a small goatee.
In terms of personality, Dr. Ziggurat is defined by his manipulative nature and his unscrupulous commitment to scientific advancement. He shows a complete lack of remorse for the people he harms, most notably when he brainwashes the young blader Toby and rationalizes it as a "cure" for his illness. He is highly arrogant, once dismissing the theories of Albert Einstein as nothing compared to his own intellect. While he initially claims his ultimate invention, the Spiral Force, is intended to solve the global energy crisis, his true motivation proves to be pure greed, as he decides to sell the technology to the highest bidder regardless of the consequences. Despite his cold and calculated demeanor, he reveals a cowardly side when his plans fall apart, attempting to flee while making excuses and blaming others for his own failures.
Within the narrative of Metal Masters, Dr. Ziggurat serves as the mastermind pulling the strings behind the championship tournament. His primary goal is to use the world-class bladers competing in the event as test subjects to gather data. This information is used to perfect the Arrangement System, a process designed to unlock a blader's full potential, and to create the ultimate Beyblade, Twisted Tempo, which he intends to use as an infinite energy source called the Spiral Force. He is also retroactively established as being connected to the events of the previous season, as he was the one who sent the villain Doji to retrieve the forbidden Bey, Lightning L-Drago, demonstrating that his plans were long in the making.
His key relationships are defined by exploitation. He uses the condition of his comatose friend to blackmail the blader Zeo Abyss, forcing him to join the HD Academy and Star Breaker under the false promise of saving Toby. He oversees the Arrangement of other powerful bladers like Damian Hart and Jack, who become ruthless members of his team. His ultimate creation is Faust, the brainwashed and amnesiac identity of the former Toby, who pilots Twisted Tempo. He also has a confrontation with the powerful blader Ryuga, whom he attempts to capture for study, only for Ryuga to escape and later sabotage his Hades City facility.
Throughout the series, Dr. Ziggurat remains a static character in terms of his core beliefs, demonstrating no moral growth or change of heart. However, his narrative development moves from that of a confident, controlling puppet master to a desperate man whose invention spirals beyond his control. His downfall begins when Ryuga's attack on Hades City causes the Spiral Force to go critical, threatening a global meltdown and revealing that Faust can no longer be controlled. As the situation collapses, Zeo confronts his former tormentor, defeating him in a Beyblade battle and leaving him unconscious as the flying metropolis sinks into the ocean.
Dr. Ziggurat is a man of notable scientific abilities. He invented the Arrangement System, a controversial process that can bring out a blader's hidden power but often at the cost of mental stability and personality. He also developed the Spiral Force technology, which he demonstrated by using Twisted Tempo to levitate the entire Hades City into the sky. While he is a creator of Beyblades, including his own Spiral Capricorn, he is not a particularly powerful blader himself.
