Movie
Description
Kakeru Tanaka is a fourteen-year-old student and a pivotal character in the events of.hack//The Movie, serving as the initial link between the protagonist, Sora Yuki, and the online game The World R:X. In his personal life, Kakeru is described as a very serious individual. His home life is strained, leading him to dislike being at home when his parents are present. As a result, he prefers to spend his time playing The World in a secluded spot under a tree near a riverbank, where he can find solitude away from his family. He is a friend to Sora and her companions Tomohiko Okano, Chieko Tokura, and Kaho Hasebe in the real world.
Kakeru is directly responsible for introducing Sora to The World R:X, giving her the necessary equipment to log in and begin her own adventure within the game. His own online persona within The World is a character named Gondo, a member of the Berserker class. Through this avatar, Kakeru feels he can express himself more freely and say what he truly feels, in contrast to his more reserved real-world demeanor. Gondo is established as a close ally to another player, Balder, who is Kakeru's real-world friend Tomohiko Okano. The friendship between Gondo and Balder in the game mirrors the strong bond between Kakeru and Tomohiko outside of it.
A significant turning point in the story occurs when Kakeru becomes a victim of a mysterious data anomaly within The World, falling into a comatose state in the real world, becoming what is known as a Lost One. This event becomes the primary motivation for Sora, who resolves to defeat the anomaly in the game in order to save her friend and awaken him from his coma.
Despite falling victim to the game's threat, Kakeru is revealed to possess unique and inherent abilities that set him apart from other players of Versus The World. He demonstrates a remarkable resistance to being Real Digitalized, a process by which the game can affect a player's physical existence. His powers appear to be the opposite of a Doubleware, yet he manifests the same crest associated with such phenomena. Furthermore, when a data chip containing the character Aura is lost in America, Kakeru experiences dreams that guide him directly to its location, suggesting an exceptional, intuitive connection to the core data of The World. The full scope and nature of these abilities remain largely unknown. Following the resolution of the crisis, Kakeru eventually recovers from his coma and is released from the hospital.
