Description
Moe Satō is a 22-year-old woman who becomes the owner of the unusually round cat named Poyo. She first encounters Poyo one night after drinking at a party; in a drunken state, she wanders through town and mistakes the cat for a pillow, falling asleep on him. The next morning she wakes up charmed by his appearance and decides to take him home to her family’s farm in the countryside. She is the eldest daughter of the Satō family and previously worked as an office lady, but after experiencing workplace harassment and a lack of understanding from her boyfriend, she quits her job and returns to help with household duties. Moe is depicted as friendly, somewhat careless, and very warm-hearted. She adores Poyo deeply, which fuels an obsession with anything round. She frequently makes Poyo-shaped crafts, foods, and other items as a hobby. Her personality is generally easygoing and kind, though she can become annoyed when Poyo ignores her or when she compares other round objects to him. She also occasionally sings impromptu songs. Her primary motivation is caring for Poyo and supporting her family. In the story, she serves as Poyo’s main human companion and the emotional center of the Satō household. Her key relationships include her younger brother Hide, a high school student with whom Poyo often playfully clashes, and her father Shigeru, a strong farmer who spoils Poyo despite his gruff exterior. She also interacts with neighbors such as the elderly Hana Sugita and her cat Kuro, as well as other local residents. Over the course of the series, Moe does not undergo dramatic personal transformation, but her bond with Poyo deepens and her role as a caring pet owner remains constant. She has no supernatural abilities, but she is skilled at handicrafts and cooking, and she demonstrates a gentle, nurturing nature toward animals.
