Description
Alex Tachibana is a supporting character who serves as both a co-worker and junior to Taihei Doma at their workplace, Diamond Service. He is also the older brother of the flamboyant Sylphynford Tachibana. Of German and Japanese heritage, Alex has a neat appearance with short blonde hair and blue eyes, typically dressed in a light brown vest over a white button-up shirt with a red tie. He stands at 168 centimeters tall and has a birthday on December 24.

Alex has a complex background that directly shapes his present-day personality. During his middle school years, he was a shut-in, living a reclusive lifestyle away from society. His life changed when he was inspired by Kanau Kongo, whom he regards as his hero, to move to Japan and attend high school there, effectively ending his period of isolation. This past as a shut-in contributes to his deep understanding and acceptance of Umaru Doma’s own indoor lifestyle when he later discovers it.

In terms of personality, Alex is a very enthusiastic and passionate fan of anime, manga, and video games. This otaku nature is his most defining trait. Despite his handsome and composed exterior, he becomes highly excitable when discussing his hobbies, even displaying the same distinctive starry-eyed expression as his sister when deeply engaged. His work ethic at Diamond Service is notably lax, as he often uses work hours to browse anime websites or tinker with figures, a habit that contrasts sharply with the more diligent Taihei. He has been known to ask Taihei for help when his computer freezes from browsing such sites.

Alex’s role in the story primarily revolves around his connection to the main cast. He is introduced when Taihei invites his co-workers over for dinner, which is where he first encounters Umaru in her lazy, indoor "himouto" state. Recognizing a kindred spirit, he quickly bonds with her over their shared interests in anime, and he begins to affectionately call her "Sensei". He is also one of the few characters who is secretly aware of the connection between Umaru and her public persona, Komaru, and he is shown discussing Umaru's indoor habits with Hikari Kongo.

His key relationships are varied. With Taihei Doma, he is a friendly but less disciplined junior who relies on Taihei for help at work. With his younger sister Sylphynford, their relationship is distant; it is mentioned that they barely spoke for an extended period, though Alex is shown to be quietly caring, once observing her from a distance. He sees his outgoing sister as an "adult little sister," likely contrasting her with his own shy past. He also has a notable dynamic with Kirie Motoba, whom he enjoys teasing by calling "Tsun Gashi-chan" or "Tsundere Girl," a nickname that irritates her greatly. His most profound relationship is with Kanau Kongo, who he considers his hero for saving him from his shut-in life, a fact he holds in deep reverence.

Throughout the series, Alex shows subtle development primarily through his growing integration with the friend group and his gradual opening up. While he does not undergo a dramatic transformation, his past as a shut-in gives him a unique perspective and empathy for Umaru, and his interactions with the others help him maintain the social life he worked hard to build. As a notable ability, aside from his extensive knowledge of otaku culture, he is known for replicating the "Shaft angle," a distinctive head-tilt animation technique that fans of the medium would recognize.
