Description
Mayuri is a unique Spirit who appears exclusively in the film Date A Live: Mayuri Judgement. She is not a natural Spirit like the others; rather, she is an artificial being born from the residual spiritual energy, known as Reiryoku, that was unconsciously emitted by the six Spirits whose powers had been sealed by Shido Itsuka: Tohka Yatogami, Yoshino Himekawa, Kotori Itsuka, Kaguya Yamai, Yuzuru Yamai, and Miku Izayoi. This collective energy, infused with the girls' stress and desire to have Shido all to themselves, gave rise to Mayuri's form and to a massive, invisible sphere hovering over Tengu City called Kerubiel. Mayuri is physically linked to Kerubiel, and together they function as a monitoring and judgment system for the stability of Shido's seal on the Spirits' powers.

In terms of appearance, Mayuri has blonde hair and deep pink eyes. She is initially invisible to everyone except Shido, which makes her a silent observer during the first part of the film. Her personality is calm and reserved; she rarely shows emotion and seems undisturbed by the fact that her existence is temporary. She follows Shido on his dates with the other Spirit girls, fulfilling her programmed mission of assessing whether the emotional bond between Shido and the sealed Spirits is stable. At the start, she accepts her purpose without protest and does not view herself as having any right to a personal life or future.

Mayuri's core motivation is tied to her function as a judge. She is meant to ensure that Shido is a worthy vessel for the combined spiritual power he holds. Her role is passive observation, and her intended conclusion is to disappear once the judgment is complete. However, as she watches Shido's sincere kindness and care for the other girls, she begins to develop her own genuine emotions, including a growing affection for Shido and eventually jealousy of the attention he gives the other Spirits. This emotional awakening conflicts with her original mission. Her burgeoning desire to be seen, loved, and allowed to live causes Kerubiel to go berserk, transforming from a silent sphere into a destructive Angel that attacks Shido and the Spirits.

Mayuri's role in the story is that of the catalyst and central tragic figure. She triggers the entire crisis of the film, and her silent presence drives the emotional tension. After the other Spirits rescue her from her own rampaging Angel, she ultimately chooses to help Shido and Tohka defeat Kerubiel. She participates in empowering Tohka by channeling the combined spiritual energy of the other girls through herself, and she seals the power by kissing Shido. This act causes her own physical form to dissipate, as she was never meant to have a permanent existence. She leaves behind only a single earring as a keepsake for Shido.

Key relationships define her arc. Her most important connection is with Shido, the only person who can see and interact with her for most of the film. She is intrinsically tied to Tohka and the other five Spirits because their spiritual energy forms her very being. Her bond with Shido is the one that awakens her humanity and ultimately leads to her sacrifice. Kurumi Tokisaki also plays a supporting role, secretly aiding Shido in his efforts to save Mayuri.

Mayuri undergoes significant development. She transitions from a detached, emotionless entity who views herself as a tool to a girl who experiences love, jealousy, and the desire to be more than her original purpose. She confronts the reality of her own transience and, in her final moments, accepts her fate with grace, finding peace in having been seen and loved by Shido.

Her notable abilities are closely tied to her Angel, Kerubiel. In its initial form, Kerubiel is a giant invisible sphere that can detect and emit spiritual waves. When provoked by Mayuri's emotional turmoil, it transforms into a powerful, mechanical Angel capable of launching devastating attacks and withstanding considerable damage. Mayuri herself can use her connection to the sealed Spirits to gather and resonate their power, enabling her to amplify Tohka's strength into a new Astral Dress known as the Deus form. She also possesses the ability to seal spiritual energy through a kiss, which is the mechanism by which she ultimately ends her own existence in order to save others.
