Description
Dyst is a prominent mage from the Carbuncle guild and serves as the main antagonist of the film. He is a tall, young-looking man with long, unkempt turquoise hair and narrow eyes featuring small irises and pupils. His attire consists of a black coat and a matching mantle with silver highlights, complemented by white boots and white gloves, with both the coat and mantle distinguished by large triangular edges along their borders. The character's early life is touched upon in a prequel short story, which reveals that a childhood encounter with death shaped his entire worldview. As a boy, he brought a dead weasel to a fortune teller, asking if she could revive it. The fortune teller, who would later be revealed as Éclair, told him that even if she were a mage, there was no magic capable of resurrecting the dead. After a discussion about the value of life, the young boy left, vowing to live, but this event instilled in him a deep-seated fear of death that he carried into adulthood.

This fear transformed into an all-consuming desire for immortality. Dyst is driven by the goal of becoming an eternal king, believing that true power lies not in any right to rule but in everlasting life. He is thoroughly arrogant, a trait he shares with his comrades in the Carbuncle guild, and is willing to go to any lengths to achieve his objective, showing no concern for the consequences that might befall anyone else. His motivations are purely selfish; he seeks the legendary blood of the Phoenix, mistakenly believing it will grant him immortality and the power to rule forever. When Prince Cream of Veronica hires Carbuncle to capture Éclair and obtain her half of the Phoenix Stone, Dyst initially follows orders, leading his guild in an attack on the Fairy Tail guild hall to kidnap her. He later accompanies the Prince to visit the imprisoned Éclair, arrogantly suggesting that her friends would be welcome to try and rescue her.

However, Dyst's loyalty to the Prince is only a means to an end. As Cream prepares to reunite the two halves of the Phoenix Stone, Dyst reveals his true nature. Unable to stand by and watch another claim the power he seeks, he uses his magic to casually cast the Prince and his guards aside, declaring himself the one worthy of immortality and calling the Phoenix forth for himself. Upon the Phoenix's release, he is momentarily surprised by its monstrous form but remains undeterred, believing he can still extract its blood. He runs onto the creature's back, frantically searching for the source of the elixir he believes will grant him eternal life. His path is ultimately blocked by Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail, leading to a final confrontation atop the rampaging beast. During their battle, he repeatedly claims that the Phoenix's blood and eternal life will be his, desperately trying to repel Natsu with his powers, only to be overcome and defeated, falling from the Phoenix's back.

Dyst's primary and most notable ability is Telekinesis. He is a highly skilled user of this magic, capable of lifting and manipulating both large and small objects with ease. He can launch massive waves of debris as projectiles and has demonstrated the power to lift multiple people into the air simultaneously, spinning them and slamming them into walls. Furthermore, he can use his telekinesis defensively to create a barrier that repels incoming physical and magical attacks. Throughout the film, this ability consistently overwhelms his opponents, allowing him to easily knock away Natsu and his companions on several occasions, and it is only through Natsu's sheer determination and increasing power that Dyst's telekinetic defense is finally breached.
