Description
Captain Arrow is a minor antagonist who appears in the anime Beyblade: Shogun Steel, serving as a member of the organization known as DNA, which is also referred to as Dark Nebula Again. His name in Japanese is Kyaputen Aroo.
In terms of physical appearance, Captain Arrow is a young man with a striking and somewhat menacing look. He has a long, voluminous assortment of blue, spiky hair that covers the top part of his head. He wears a grey mask over his eyes and nose, similar to a masquerade mask, which has evenly cut holes that reveal his distinctive yellow eyes. His light skin and a characteristic smirk add to his devious demeanor. His attire is notable for its revealing nature; he wears a red and black garment that resembles a shirt but only covers his chest, leaving his abdomen and sides exposed. This piece is fastened by a golden chain around his neck, which also sports a brown dog-chain. He completes his look with brown fingerless gloves, tight black jeans, and light-grey boots that appear somewhat oversized.
Personality-wise, Captain Arrow is a complex figure who presents a confident and self-assured front. Despite being an antagonist working for DNA, he labels himself a self-proclaimed Blader of Justice. While his appearance is certainly intimidating, his personality in practice is somewhat lighter, and he faces his opponents in the stadium with a great deal of confidence. This confidence borders on narcissism, as he frequently claims to be one of, if not the best, Blader within DNA. This boastful nature is often at odds with his actual performance in battles.
His motivation as a character is rooted in this desire to prove his strength for DNA. He enters the Neo Battle Bladers tournament with the goal of winning, and later participates in direct assaults against other BeyParks under the organization's orders.
Within the story of Beyblade: Shogun Steel, Captain Arrow is first seen when he is announced as one of the final eight competitors, known as the Best Eight, in the Neo Battle Bladers tournament. This announcement surprises some of the other characters, particularly Ren Kurenai. His most significant role comes during his quarter-final match against another powerful Blader, Sakyo Kuroyami. Despite putting up an initial fight, he is ultimately defeated by Sakyo in a single, decisive hit. Following his defeat in the tournament, Arrow continues to serve DNA. He is seen training with other members, including the main antagonist Kira Hayama, and later takes part in a large-scale attack on a BeyPark, battling against the protagonist Zyro Kurogane and his friends.
His key relationships are primarily with his fellow DNA members. He works alongside Bladers such as Kira Hayama, Genjuro Kamegaki, Spike Bourne, and Yoshio Iwayama. In one instance, when the Garcia family bosses order them to attack Kira, Arrow, Genjuro, and Spike attempt to comply but are swiftly and effortlessly defeated by Kira, highlighting the difference in their power levels. He is a loyal soldier within the organization, often seen in group settings as they carry out their plans.
Captain Arrow does not undergo a significant character development arc. He remains a consistent presence as a mid-level antagonist who is confident in his abilities but is easily overpowered by the series' strongest Bladers. His role is to be a credible but ultimately surmountable obstacle for the heroes and to add to the ranks of the DNA organization.
His notable abilities as a Blader are tied to his Beyblade, Archer Wyvang 145WB (also known as Archer Wyvern 145WB). This is a Defense-Type Beyblade. Captain Arrow has two known special moves. The first is Arrow Tornado, where his Beyblade creates a powerful and massive funnel of wind that can throw an opponent's Beyblade away and drain its spin power. The second is Tornado Attack, an upgraded and more mobile version of Arrow Tornado where Archer Wyvang charges at the opponent at full speed while the tornado is active. Despite the impressive nature of these attacks, they were ultimately insufficient to secure a victory against the more powerful Bladers he faced.
