TV-Series
Description
Atsuhiro Maeda, known almost exclusively by his nickname Wiener or Wien, is a main character. He is a transfer student who returns to Japan after having spent twelve years living in Vienna, Austria, which is the direct origin of his nickname. He is a third-year student at Shirahamazaka High School.

Wiener has a personality defined by diligence, a helpful nature, and a strong sense of creativity. He is a careful and reliable friend, though his most distinctive trait is his heavy reliance on books as his primary source of information. Having left Japan at a very young age, he is largely unfamiliar with modern Japanese customs and language nuances. To compensate, he frequently consults a guidebook on Japanese culture, which unfortunately is often comically inaccurate or outdated. This reliance on textbooks extends to his passion for singing, as he also studies vocal training manuals with high hopes of improving his own skills. He is an ambitious person who shows a strong desire to achieve the goals set before him.

His primary motivation is to adapt successfully to his new life in Japan while pursuing his interest in music. He is keen on becoming a better singer and applies his studious nature to this pursuit. His desire to fit in and understand his surroundings is a constant driver of his actions, even if his methods sometimes lead to misunderstandings.

Within the story, Wiener initially becomes involved with the badminton club when his classmate and friend, Taichi Tanaka, convinces him to join in an effort to prevent the club from being disbanded. However, after a match where the badminton club loses to the choir club, both Wiener and Tanaka agree to join the newly formed Choir and Sometimes Badminton Club, becoming core members alongside Konatsu Miyamoto, Sawa Okita, and Wakana Sakai. His role in the group is often as a steady, earnest presence who contributes his creativity, particularly in building props for their performances. He is also the self-appointed and undisputed leader of the WestStop Rangers, a superhero-themed playgroup in which he portrays the Red Ranger.

His most significant relationship is with Taichi Tanaka. Tanaka serves as his cultural anchor and best friend, patiently teaching him about authentic modern Japan and discouraging him from relying on his inaccurate textbooks. Through Tanaka, Wiener is integrated into the main friend group. He also shares a connection to his past in Austria, having left behind a close friend named Yang, to whom he gave a Ranger toy as a farewell gift. This relationship highlights his thoughtful and sentimental side.

Wiener’s development is closely tied to moving beyond his books and engaging directly with the world and people around him. Initially, he tries to understand everything through written guides, which isolates him. As the series progresses, he learns to trust his friends' guidance, like Tanaka's, and participates in group activities such as singing and preparing for the school festival. This transition helps him form genuine bonds and overcome the sense of being an outsider, allowing him to find his place within the group.

In terms of notable abilities, Wiener is highly creative and skilled at crafting, as demonstrated when he single-handedly makes the props required for the choir club's play. His long stay in Austria has made him fluent in German, which is listed as his special skill. He is also shown to be a competent badminton player, enough to join the club in a serious effort to keep it from closing.
