Description
Ayumi Yamagō is a first-year student at Ooarai Girls Academy and serves as the 75mm gunner and loader for Rabbit Team, operating the sponson-mounted main gun of their M3 Lee medium tank. She stands 160 centimeters tall, making her the tallest member of her team, and possesses a noticeably more developed physique compared to her teammates. Her appearance is characterized by long dark hair, often described as dark blue or black with a hyacinth blue tint, paired with dark blue eyes and a scattering of freckles across her cheeks.
Ayumi is known for her boyish, straightforward, and energetic personality, though this disposition also makes her prone to accumulating stress readily. Despite her taller and more mature appearance, she behaves with the same youthful and carefree attitude as most of her teammates. She enjoys physical activity and, if given the choice, would select aikido as a school subject. She practices Pilates daily, which she humorously mispronounces as tirapise, and collects diet-related products, reflecting an interest in maintaining her figure. Her favorite food is meat doria, her preferred flower is the marguerite daisy, and her favorite tank is the German Jagdtiger.
Within Rabbit Team, Ayumi frequently joins team commander Azusa Sawa in playing the straight role, balancing the more eccentric tendencies of crewmates Aya Oono and Karina Sakaguchi. She also takes on the responsibility of checking in with the exceptionally quiet Saki Maruyama, helping to ensure Saki's opinions are heard during team discussions. Outside her own team, she maintains a notable friendship with Taeko Kondou from Duck Team.
In combat, Ayumi faces specific challenges due to the M3 Lee's design. The 75mm gun is mounted on the hull rather than a turret, providing only vertical movement and requiring the entire tank to turn for horizontal aiming. This limitation means she has few opportunities to engage enemies who are not directly in front of the tank, leading her to occasionally express boredom or a desire to shoot. During the match against Pravda High School, the destruction of her main gun significantly impaired the team's effectiveness. However, she has demonstrated her skill on notable occasions, including the match against Anzio High School where she scored a direct hit on a Semovente tank destroyer after receiving range-finding support from Aya Oono, prompting teammates to compare her gunnery to that of team commander Miho Nishizumi.
Before the tournament finals, Rabbit Team watched the film Kelly's Heroes, during which Ayumi became the most visibly emotional when a character's tank gun became immobilized, sympathizing with the situation. In a drama CD episode centered on studying for tests, she visited Duck Team to observe their methods but nearly ended up joining the volleyball club instead. Her family consists of her parents and an older sister, and she originally comes from Omitama City in Ibaraki Prefecture, living in the school dormitory. Her name is derived from two players on Japan's women's national football team that won the 2011 World Cup, combining elements from goalkeepers Nozomi Yamagō and Ayumi Kaihori.
