Description
Mika Uehara is a high school senior who first appears in the later portion of the Project D story arc, also referred to as the Kanagawa Expedition Arc. She is introduced when she confronts Takumi Fujiwara at the gas station where he works, slapping him because she believes he stood up her best friend Tomoko. This misunderstanding stems from a person impersonating Takumi. Once she learns the truth through a cell phone photo sent by her friend, she seeks Takumi out to apologize. Takumi later drives to Saitama, where she lives, and they talk for hours, beginning a romantic relationship.

Mika is an exceptionally talented golfer who has been trained by her father from an early age, a parallel to how Bunta Fujiwara trained Takumi to drive. She aspires to become a professional golfer and is described as a hardworking and dedicated athlete. Her personality is straightforward and strong-willed; she is not afraid to confront someone when she believes they have wronged a friend, yet she is also quick to admit her mistakes and apologize. She possesses a sense of fairness and a direct manner of speech.

Her primary role in the story is as Takumi's love interest, providing him with emotional grounding and a sense of normalcy outside the high-pressure world of Project D’s street races. Their relationship develops from the initial confrontation into a genuine bond built on mutual understanding and support. Mika’s own dedication to her sport mirrors Takumi’s commitment to racing, allowing them to relate to each other’s drive for excellence.

Throughout the Fifth Stage and into Final Stage, Mika and Takumi continue to see each other. She accompanies him on dates, including a notable trip to the beach, and she experiences firsthand his extraordinary driving instincts when he skillfully avoids a multi-car accident. This incident further deepens her admiration for him.

In terms of development, Mika evolves from a headstrong stranger into a caring partner who encourages Takumi in his racing pursuits while also pursuing her own golf career. She also interacts briefly with members of the Akina SpeedStars, including Itsuki Takeuchi, though her arc remains secondary to the main racing narrative.

Her notable abilities lie entirely in golf, where she is portrayed as having exceptional skill and discipline, a result of years of rigorous practice under her father’s guidance. There is no indication that she is a driver or involved in street racing herself. Her significance is in the personal growth she brings to Takumi, showing his maturation beyond the world of mountain passes and into a balanced life that includes a meaningful relationship. In the sequel series MF Ghost, it is implied that Takumi later marries a professional golfer from Saitama, strongly suggesting that Mika and Takumi eventually wed.
