Description
Koko Hekmatyar is the central protagonist of Jormungand: Perfect Order. She is a young and highly successful arms dealer who heads the European and African Logistics Division of HCLI, an international shipping company that secretly trades weapons. Born into the influential Hekmatyar family, she is the daughter of shipping magnate Floyd Hekmatyar and the younger sister of Kasper Hekmatyar, both of whom are deeply involved in the arms trade.

On the surface, Koko presents a cheerful, playful, and sometimes childish demeanor. She is known for her constant smile, which she maintains even in the most dangerous situations. However, this affable exterior conceals a calculating, ruthless, and strategically brilliant mind. Several characters in the series refer to her as a "monster" because of her willingness to do whatever is necessary to achieve her goals, without being swayed by sentiment or conventional morality. Her true emotions are rarely on display; after the death of her subordinate Echo in the first season, she adopted the practice of never showing her vulnerability, keeping a fixed smile as a shield.

Koko’s motivations are complex and evolve over the course of the story. While she operates as a merchant of death, profiting from global conflict, she secretly harbors a grand vision for ending war altogether. Her ultimate objective is Project Jormungand, an ambitious plan to seize control of the world’s satellites and electronic communications, thereby making aerial warfare and large-scale conflict impossible. In Perfect Order, she shifts from a straightforward arms dealer to a global visionary who is willing to sacrifice lives, including those of innocent civilians, to enforce a permanent peace. This goal sets her apart from other characters in the series and defines her role as a force that reshapes the global order.

As the leader of a small, highly skilled private security squad, Koko is the driving force of the narrative. She orchestrates complex operations, outmaneuvers rivals, governments, and intelligence agencies, and remains several steps ahead of her opponents. Her role is not passive; she is directly involved in negotiations, combat, and the strategic direction of her team. She blurs the line between protagonist and antagonist, operating in a moral gray area where her actions are both admired and condemned.

Key relationships shape Koko’s character arc. She shares a deep, brotherly bond with Jonah, the young former child soldier who joins her squad. She treats him with affection and protection, viewing him as a younger brother, and his presence challenges her emotionally. Valmet, one of her most loyal bodyguards, harbors a strong romantic attachment to Koko, though Koko never reciprocates it clearly. Her relationship with her brother Kasper is competitive yet supportive; they work within the same corporation but have different philosophies. She holds deep resentment toward her father, Floyd, for forcing her into the arms trade. Among her team, she is fiercely protective and commands absolute loyalty, often putting their safety above her own interests.

Throughout the series, Koko undergoes significant development. The first season establishes her as a charismatic but ruthless arms dealer. The attack by the rival organization Hex and Echo’s death harden her emotionally, leading her to suppress her true feelings behind an unchanging smile. In Perfect Order, she reveals the full scope of her plan and is forced to confront its moral consequences. She temporarily loses Jonah, who defects to her brother’s side upon learning the scale of her intentions, but eventually reunites with him as the plan unfolds. By the end, she successfully launches the Jormungand satellite network, achieving her goal at a terrible human cost, and her character remains a deeply ambiguous figure, neither fully redeemed nor condemned.

Koko’s notable abilities extend beyond her charismatic leadership. She is a tactical genius capable of designing and executing multifaceted operations. She is an expert negotiator and manipulator, able to read people and situations with precision. She is also proficient in firearms and hand-to-hand combat, though she rarely needs to rely on physical force herself. Her greatest asset is her unshakable composure and her ability to maintain control under pressure, inspiring unwavering loyalty from her team. Her suppressed trauma, however, occasionally influences her decision-making and adds depth to her seemingly unflappable persona.
