Description
Caswell, known as Takashi Todoroki in the original Japanese version, is a prominent supporting character in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL II. He is a first-year student at Heartland Academy and serves as the class representative, a role he takes very seriously and which forms the core of his identity. In the Japanese version, other characters often refer to him simply as class rep rather than by his given name.

Physically, Caswell is recognizable by his blue hair styled over black hair in a distinct bowl cut. He is unique among the main cast as a character who is almost always seen wearing his standard school uniform, which is identical to those worn by his friends Yuma Tsukumo and Bronk Stone, reflecting his punctual and rule-abiding nature. Following a brutal Duel against Quattro during the World Duel Carnival, he also wears an orange arm brace to support his injured arm.

Caswell is portrayed as highly intelligent and methodical, believing that with enough planning, any situation can be controlled and executed perfectly. This worldview is often playfully challenged by his teacher, Mr. Kay, who reminds him that not everything goes according to plan. A verbal tic accompanies his speech; in the Japanese version, he often concludes a statement by saying to summarize, while the English dub has him saying in the end. While he is generally a loyal and supportive friend to Yuma, he also possesses a competitive side and a degree of pride in his position. This is most evident when he loses an election for class representative to Yuma by a single vote, an event that deeply wounds his pride and leads him to accept the position of Student Council Disciplinary Chief from the manipulable Student Council President, Carlyle Chesterton. In this temporary role, he becomes an overzealous enforcer of school rules, aggressively enforcing minor infractions and even using his authority to interfere in a Duel, forcing Yuma to return his monsters to his hand. Yuma's words during that Duel ultimately motivate Caswell to abandon this misguided authority, removing his disciplinary uniform and diving into the school swimming pool as an act of rebellion against the oppressive system. Following this, he is officially welcomed as member number one of Yuma's Super Secret Number Cards Investigation Club.

As a friend, Caswell is a core member of Yuma's support group, which also includes Tori Meadows, Bronk Stone, Cathy Katherine, and Flip Turner. He frequently appears alongside them to cheer for Yuma during important Duels or to help with various schemes and investigations. His relationship with Flip is notable as the two often find themselves as partners in minor mischief, such as when they overhear a partial conversation and inadvertently start a school-wide rumor about Rio and Yuma, a mistake for which they are promptly chased down by an irate Rio.

Throughout his appearances, Caswell demonstrates a notable capacity for growth. He moves from a rigid, by-the-book individual whose self-worth is tied to his official title to someone who understands that personal value comes from one's actions and abilities rather than a label. His analytical skills also make him one of the first to realize the true, dangerous stakes of a Duel, such as when he perceives that the effects of the card Angolmois have become terrifyingly real.

In terms of dueling ability, Caswell is a competent and strategic player. He initially defeats Yuma with ease in their first off-screen Duel when Astral is not present to help Yuma access his Extra Deck. For the World Duel Carnival, he rebuilds his strategy around a Debugger Deck, which focuses on quickly swarming the field with monsters to facilitate the summoning of his primary ace monster, Vaccingale (known as Antidote Nurse in some sources). He also utilizes cards like Mechquipped Angineer, demonstrating his familiarity with Xyz summoning mechanics. Despite his skill, he is often pitted against much more powerful foes, such as Quattro and the bounty hunter Fender, and is frequently defeated off-screen to establish the strength of an antagonist.
