Description
Dr. Faker is a central antagonist in the early story arcs of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL and the father of Kite and Haruto Tenjo. A scientist and the original creator of Heartland, he is a brilliant researcher of otherworldly energies who appears to be a cruel and power-hungry mastermind, but whose actions are ultimately revealed to be driven by a desperate desire to save his younger son.

In the past, Dr. Faker was known to be a kind person who built Heartland as a place for children to have fun. However, his youngest son, Haruto, was born very frail, and knowing the boy could not survive without intervention, Faker became obsessed with finding a door to other dimensions to harness their power to sustain his son's life. Working with Byron Arclight and the adventurer Kazuma Tsukumo, Faker located the dimensional portal. Upon discovering an inscription stating that two souls were required to open the door, he betrayed his colleagues and sacrificed them to gain entry, leading to Kazuma's disappearance and Byron's transformation into the being known as Vetrix.

On the other side of the door, Faker entered the Barian World and made a pact with the entity Vector. Vector agreed to use his powers to keep Haruto alive on the condition that Faker would destroy the Astral World. This deal set Faker on his path of conflict. In the present, he appears as a calculating and ruthless figure who instructs his elder son, Kite, to hunt for the powerful Number cards. Faker claims to have given up his own humanity to protect the Earth and his children, comparing his sacrifice to Kite giving up his humanity to protect Haruto. While he initially seems to view Haruto as a mere weapon to attack the Astral World, this facade slips when Haruto is endangered by Vetrix, revealing his genuine concern and rage as a father. Similarly, his callous statements about his sons being trivial sacrifices are later shown to be a front for his true, desperate goal.

Dr. Faker serves as the primary antagonist for much of the series, manipulating events from the shadows while Mr. Heartland acts as a public figurehead. His role is central to several key backstories: he is responsible for the tragedy that befell the Arclight family, creating his sworn enemy Vetrix, and for the disappearance of Yuma Tsukumo's father, Kazuma. He is also notable for being one of the few humans capable of seeing the spirit Astral. His plan culminates in the construction of the Sphere Field Cannon, a device designed to use the power of the collected Number cards and Haruto's abilities to fire a projectile at the Astral World and destroy it, fulfilling his pact with Vector.

His most significant relationship is with his sons. Kite, unaware of the true nature of the pact with Vector, works as a Number Hunter under the belief that collecting the cards will cure Haruto. Faker's entire scheme is motivated by his love for his sick son, even as he uses that same son's powers to achieve his goal. His former friend Byron Arclight, now the vengeful Vetrix, serves as his primary nemesis, seeking retribution for his betrayal. He is also in a manipulative alliance with Mr. Heartland, who helps him run Heartland and hide his secrets.

During the World Duel Carnival finals, Faker finally confronts Yuma Tsukumo, Kite, and Shark in a three-on-one Duel. In this battle, he undergoes a physical transformation, his body becoming that of a muscular cyborg with metallic features. As he faces defeat, his true motivations are revealed, and he is persuaded by the protagonists to abandon his plan. However, Vector intervenes, possessing Faker's body and forcing him to continue the Duel in a demonic form marked by the Barian emblem, transforming his skin to shades of red and sprouting wings from his back. After being defeated, Vector leaves his body, and Faker regains his senses one last time before the collapsing Sphere Field Cannon claims him.

Dr. Faker uses a deck themed around Garbage monsters, with his ace cards being Number 53: Heart-eartH and Number 92: Heart-eartH Dragon. His abilities include transforming his body into an enhanced cyborg form for dueling and, while possessed by Vector, assuming a demonic Barian form with wings.
