Description
Iris is a character who appears in the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL II, specifically during the story arc that explores the past lives of several main characters. She is a young girl who lived in ancient times, during the same era that Reginald Kastle existed as the Barian warrior king known as Nash. Her past is intrinsically tied to the conflict between Nash and his enemy, Vector.
In terms of appearance, Iris is depicted as a girl with green hair and blue eyes. Her visual design is noted to bear a strong resemblance to a younger version of Rio Kastle, from whom she differs primarily in hair color. Her attire consists of a peach dress with a black rope tied around her waist, and she wears brown sandals.
Iris's background is one of tragedy and loss. She was originally a survivor of a town that was devastated by the villainous Vector. After this destruction, she was discovered and taken in by Nash's army, who looked after her. Upon seeing her, Nash was immediately struck by her striking similarity to his own deceased sister, Marin. He became deeply affected by this resemblance, wondering if Iris was a gift sent to him by Marin or perhaps even the reincarnation of his lost sister herself. Because of this connection, Nash grew very close to her and cared for her.
Iris's role in the story is primarily within the memories of Reginald Kastle, also known as Shark, and his sister Rio. She serves as a poignant figure in Nash’s past life, representing both hope and eventual sorrow. When Nash departed to confront Vector by himself, his army, including Iris, disobeyed his wishes and followed after him to fight alongside their king. She accompanied them into the battle. Although Nash was ultimately victorious over Vector, the cost was immense; Iris was killed in the conflict, along with the rest of Nash's loyal army. Upon discovering her body, Nash was overcome with grief, taking her in his arms and weeping for her and his fallen soldiers. It was after this event that their souls were absorbed into the Barian World.
Later in the anime, when Shark is forced to relive these painful memories of his past life, a vision of Iris appears. The Barian warrior Dumon transports Shark, Rio, and himself to the Barian World, where Iris is shown living peacefully alongside the spirits of Nash's other soldiers. In this realm, she is depicted as being happy to see her king once again. This appearance underscores her role as a symbol of innocence lost and the deep, personal motivations that drive Nash's actions.
Iris does not participate in Dueling and therefore has no notable Dueling abilities or strategies. Her significance is purely narrative, serving to flesh out the tragic backstory of the character Reginald Kastle and to illustrate the cruelty of his enemy, Vector. She is a catalyst for emotional development rather than an active participant in the main plot's conflicts.
