Todomatsu Matsuno is the youngest of the six Matsuno brothers, his name originating from "椴松" (todomatsu), the Japanese term for the Abies fir tree. While early media didn't explicitly define his birth order, later works, especially the 2015-2018 series, confirm his status as the youngest.
As a child, he flustered easily and displayed clumsy tendencies. He often grew belligerent, complaining during frustrating situations caused by his brothers or his own mistakes. Despite this, he participated in group activities, including bullying Chibita, though he typically lost one-on-one fights. His hobbies included playing marbles and building model airplanes with Jyushimatsu. He disliked public baths due to dizziness from the heat and avoided unnecessary bathing. He saved minimal amounts like 30 or 70 yen. He sometimes showed insecurity, insisting "I'm Todomatsu!" when his name was forgotten, or entrepreneurial spirit, converting the kitchen into "Todomatsu's Restaurant" and charging family members. Visually identical to his brothers as a child, later reprints assigned him yellow as a theme color, though an April Fools' joke depicted him with orange.
As a teenager around ages 16–18, he developed distinct physical traits: shorter stature, rounder cheeks, larger pupils, and a cat-like mouth compared to his brothers. His high school uniform appeared oversized. Emotionally, he became more openly dependent and clingy toward his older brothers, crying when left alone or stranded. A pivotal shift occurred after an encounter with his adult self, who advised leveraging perceived cuteness to manipulate others and pursue independence. This interaction, coupled with anxiety about his future dismissed by Osomatsu, shaped his later personality.
In adulthood, he adopted an effeminate, fashion-forward persona, frequently wearing pink clothing and accessorizing with items like a brown beanie or a boater hat. He cultivated popularity with women, often seen on casual dates, though his brothers resented this and sometimes excluded him for not fitting their "NEET" identity. His relationships with women were typically short-lived, ending when his true nature surfaced or his brothers interfered. Beneath his cute exterior lay a manipulative, two-faced personality. Notable instances include pretending not to recognize Osomatsu during a date, shunning his brothers to avoid embarrassment in front of women, declining his mother's custody interview while secretly celebrating her choice to support him, and feigning affection for Ichimatsu's cat to sell it. This duality led to his temporary replacement by "Michaelmatsu" after disqualification for not fitting the "NEET" label, though he later returned.
Regarding childhood relationships, his dynamic with Karamatsu involved frequent collaboration and conflict; Todomatsu often got upset over Karamatsu's actions leading them into trouble. Their interactions included joint activities like serving grilled corn or participating in classroom scenes.
In the movie "Hipipo-Zoku to Kagayaku Kajitsu," Todomatsu and his brothers journey to find a legendary wish-granting fruit, encountering the Hipipo Tribe on an island. While the film focuses on the brothers' collective adventure, Todomatsu's individual moments were noted as significant, including interactions where tribe members inexplicably develop affections for the brothers.
