TV-Series
Description
Michiru Kinushima is a seventeen year old Spotter employed at Terminal Service Number One, a branch of SAI Corporation tasked with retrieving Giftia androids whose lifespans have reached their limit. She is partnered with the Giftia Zack and serves as the senior colleague and mentor to the newly hired Tsukasa Mizugaki. Michiru has orange hair tied into a ponytail with a red bow and blue eyes.
Michiru's background is marked by a formative and painful experience. She was raised by a Giftia who acted as her father figure. When that Giftia reached the end of his operable lifespan, she tried to protect him from being retrieved. As a result, he became a wanderer a Giftia that has lost its memories and personality and becomes potentially violent. He was subsequently shot down by a private security firm. This traumatic event led Michiru to harbor a longstanding resentment toward that security company and ultimately motivated her to join Terminal Service herself. Because she was raised by a Giftia, she feels a strong sense of empathy toward others who have been raised by androids, a group sometimes referred to as android children.
In terms of personality, Michiru is moderately kind and genuinely cares for her colleagues, particularly Tsukasa, for whom she develops strong romantic feelings. However, she struggles to admit these feelings openly, often masking them with a tsundere attitude. This is most evident in her interactions with the Giftia Isla, toward whom she displays jealousy because of Isla's close bond with Tsukasa. Despite this rivalry, Michiru does everything she can to support Tsukasa in his work and personal challenges. She is also known for having a hot-headed and impulsive nature, which can be balanced by the more laid-back and experienced demeanor of her partner Zack. On the job, she possesses skilled combat abilities that are useful during retrieval missions.
Her role in the story is that of a supporting character who highlights the workplace dynamics and emotional complexities of working alongside androids. She acts as Tsukasa's initial guide into the Terminal Service world and provides a contrast to his developing relationship with Isla. Her presence also serves to demonstrate the personal stakes involved for humans who have lost loved ones to the Giftia lifespan system.
Key relationships define much of her arc. With Tsukasa, she harbors unrequited love that complicates their coworker friendship and leads to tension, particularly concerning his bond with Isla. With Zack, she forms a close professional partnership; his calm approach helps temper her impulsiveness during missions. Her interactions with section chief Eru Miru often involve receiving guidance on controlling her emotions.
Over the course of the series, Michiru experiences notable development. She begins as a brash and competitive operative who uses her skills to assert herself within the team. As the story progresses, she confronts her insecurities about her unreciprocated feelings for Tsukasa, learning to put aside her jealousy and support her colleagues despite her personal heartache. Her growth leads to greater emotional maturity, allowing her to accept her role within the team without letting personal feelings overshadow her professional duties.
