Description
Nashetania Loei Piena Augustra, known as Nachetanya, is the first princess of the Kingdom of Piena, the largest and most influential kingdom on the continent, and she is first in line to succeed the throne. Three years before the main events, she was chosen as the new Saint of Blades, a title that grants her the ability to create blades from nothing. She can manifest these blades as projectiles, cause them to erupt from the ground beneath her opponents, or arrange them into a protective shield. She also wields a jeweled rapier in combat and wears white armor with a helmet that features two stylized rabbit ears. In addition to her saint-given power, she later gains abilities from being fused with a kyouma, or fiend, including a concealing ability, rapid self-healing, and the production of a Sacred Instrument known as a Blade Gem, which she keeps hidden from the other Saints.
Nachetanya's personality is highly variable and adapts to her company. She can appear as a carefree and easygoing young girl, a dignified and proper princess, a cold and calculating mastermind, or a playful and mischievous woman. This chameleon-like nature makes it difficult for others to discern her true feelings, and she often uses this adaptability to manipulate those around her for her own ends. She is aware of Goldov's deep affection for her but does not seem to reciprocate it in a romantic sense; nonetheless, she places absolute trust in his ability to protect and rescue her, believing he can overcome any number of enemies to reach her.
Her motivations are rooted in her upbringing. She was raised alongside Dozzu, a shape-shifting kyouma, who instilled in her the belief that humans and kyouma could coexist peacefully. This ideal drives her actions throughout the story. She enters the temple as the seventh Brave, activating the barrier that traps the group, in order to fulfill a centuries-old deal among the three kyouma lords: whichever lord kills three Braves first gains control over the others. Nachetanya agreed to help Dozzu accomplish this task, intending to kill three of the six chosen Braves and thereby secure Dozzu's dominance among the fiends.
Her role in the narrative is that of a key antagonist and a central figure in the mystery of the seventh Brave. She initially appears as an ally to the protagonist Adlet Mayer, but her true allegiance is gradually unveiled. Her relationships with the other Braves are complex: she shares a close bond with Goldov, who serves as her loyal knight; she respects and has trained under the Saint of Mountains, Mora; and she engages in direct conflict with several of the other Saints, including Chamot, whom she has secretly planted a blade inside. Her development involves a shift from a seemingly friendly princess to a ruthless operator willing to sacrifice lives for her vision of peace, though her ultimate goal remains the coexistence of humans and fiends rather than simple destruction.
Notably, despite her deceptive nature, Nachetanya is not the final villain of the series. Her schemes are later overshadowed by the machinations of the true seventh Brave and the kyouma lords, leading to a more complicated struggle in which she becomes a pawn in a larger game. Her abilities, both as a Saint and as a half-kyouma hybrid, make her a formidable combatant, and her strategic mind allows her to manipulate events even when physically cornered.
