Description
Kiki de Aries, who first appears in the original Saint Seiya series as a child, returns in Saint Seiya Omega as an adult and the new Gold Saint of the Aries Temple. By the time of the events in Omega, he has become the legendary and sole known repairer of the sacred Cloths, a rare and vital skill he inherited from his master, Mu. He hails from the mountainous region of Jamir in Tibet, the traditional homeland of the clan of craftsmen who forge and restore the Saints' armor. As an adult, he has brown hair which he wears long and tied back, a style reminiscent of his master, and he still bears the two distinctive dots, known as tilaka, on his forehead, marking his heritage from the people of Jamir. He also has a young apprentice named Raki, whom he is training in the arts of Cloth repair.
Kiki possesses a calm, wise, and deeply loyal personality, characteristic of the Gold Saints of Athena. Despite the Sanctuary being under the control of the war god Mars during the first part of the series, Kiki remains faithful to Athena and her cause. He is quiet and measured, a stark contrast to the more impulsive younger generation of Bronze Saints, and he carries a strong sense of duty and responsibility. He views the new Bronze Saints, particularly the Pegasus Saint Koga, as a beacon of hope for the world and believes in their potential to defeat the gods who threaten humanity. His motivations are centered on protecting Athena and supporting the Saints who will carry on the fight for justice. While he is a formidable warrior, his primary role is often that of a supporter and mentor, using his unique abilities to aid others rather than seeking personal glory in battle.
In the narrative of Omega, Kiki plays a crucial and pivotal role. During the Mars arc, he is initially stationed at the Aries Temple, the first of the twelve Zodiac temples that the Bronze Saints must pass. Appearing to be an enemy, he instead reveals his true allegiance by explaining the nature of Mars's plan to drain the Earth's energy and then repairing the damaged Bronze Cloths of Koga and his friends, greatly enhancing their durability. This act of defiance is a direct betrayal of Mars, who then sends his army of Martians to destroy Kiki. Kiki single-handedly holds off the Martian forces, demonstrating his immense power as a Gold Saint to buy the young warriors time to continue their mission. He later joins forces with other loyal Gold Saints, including Harbinger of Taurus, Genbu of Libra, and Fudo of Virgo, to combine their cosmos and transport the Bronze Saints from Earth to the planet Mars for their final confrontation with Mars and the primordial god Abzu. In the subsequent Pallas arc, Kiki continues his essential work as the Cloth repairer. He is a primary target for the enemy Pallasites, who understand that without him, the Saints' armors would eventually become useless. He confronts and defeats the Second-class Pallasite Dione, protecting the Cloths of fallen warriors and repairing those of active Saints, including Yuna, enabling them to continue fighting.
His key relationships are rooted in his past and present. He is the disciple of the previous Aries Gold Saint, Mu, and he holds his master in the highest regard, having inherited not only his techniques but also his role as a craftsman. He also has a strong sense of camaraderie with the five original Bronze Saints, having fought alongside them in their youth, and shows great respect for them. In Omega, he develops a new dynamic with the younger generation of Saints, acting as a wise but distant guardian. He also forges bonds of mutual respect with his fellow Gold Saints like Harbinger, with whom he fights side-by-side against Mars's army. Kiki’s development from a mischievous and carefree child in the original series to a serious, wise, and responsible Gold Saint in Omega is one of his most notable aspects. He has fully matured, embracing the immense weight of his responsibilities as both a warrior and the keeper of the sacred craft of Cloth restoration, ensuring the legacy of his master continues.
As the Gold Saint of Aries, Kiki wields several formidable abilities. His techniques are inherited directly from his master, Mu. He can create the Crystal Wall, an invisible, impenetrable barrier that can defend against and reflect enemy attacks. His primary offensive techniques include Stardust Revolution, where he unleashes a multitude of light beams that rain down upon his opponent like falling stars, and Starlight Extinction, a powerful cosmic attack that engulfs the enemy in a brilliant, galaxy-like explosion capable of completely annihilating them. In a desperate situation, he is also capable of participating in the forbidden technique known as the Athena Exclamation, combining his power with two other Gold Saints to create an attack on the scale of the Big Bang. Beyond combat, his most notable ability is his mastery of Cloth repair. Using his deep understanding of armor composition, cosmic energy, and specialized tools, he can restore, enhance, and even redesign Cloths. As a master craftsman, he can also perceive the hidden doubts and weaknesses within a warrior's heart, which can prevent their Cloth from manifesting. Furthermore, his intimate knowledge of armor allows him to identify and exploit the structural weak points of any enemy armor, including the Chronotectors worn by the Pallasites, enabling him to destroy them with a single, precise strike.
