Description
Medea is a central antagonist in the anime Saint Seiya Omega. She is the wife of the war god Mars and the biological mother of Eden, as well as the stepmother of Sonia. Known by the titles Imperial Sorceress and holy witch, Medea initially appears as a quiet, composed woman entirely devoted to her husband. This demeanor is a calculated facade; in truth, she is a power-hungry, coldhearted, and deeply manipulative individual who will use, betray, or discard anyone without remorse to achieve her goals. She is the true architect behind nearly all major events in the series. During the first battle between Athena and Mars, Medea traveled to the ruins of darkness and summoned a massive meteorite composed of darkness that struck Earth. This event caused all Saints’ cloths to transform into Clothstones and granted them control over elemental forces, fundamentally changing the nature of combat in the era. Together with her brother Amor, Medea orchestrated the conflict to fuse the darkness cosmo of Mars and the Pegasus Saint Koga in order to awaken their true master, the primordial god Abzu. She manipulated Mars into attacking Athena and later subtly guided the war from behind the scenes, influencing Gold Saints like Ionia and Tokisada to join Mars’s cause. Medea also showed a chilling willingness to sacrifice her own family: she sent Sonia to kill her half-brother Eden when he began to doubt their plans, and she showed a disturbing fascination with Koga while appearing indifferent to her own son. In the end, after Mars was defeated, Medea seized Aria’s sceptre and attempted to complete Abzu’s resurrection on Mars. When Abzu possessed Koga, Medea tried to force Eden to witness the new world’s birth. However, as Eden fought Abzu, Medea stepped in to shield her son from an attack and was mortally wounded, dying in his arms. Her abilities stem from her innate darkness cosmo, which she has wielded since birth. She can project energy in the form of discs or multiple spheres, summon powerful occult forces, and is implied to have created the dark tree that imprisoned Saori and drained her cosmo. Her most consequential act was calling down the darkness meteorite, which reshaped the power system of the Saint Seiya Omega world.
