Description
Libra Shiryu, originally known as Dragon Shiryu from the original Saint Seiya series, appears in Saint Seiya Omega as a veteran warrior who has ascended to the rank of Gold Saint, inheriting the Libra Cloth. In the years following the original series, Shiryu returned to the Five Old Peaks of Lushan, where he married Shunrei and fathered a son named Ryuho. His life as a Saint was disrupted by an unspecified accident that caused him to lose all five of his senses, forcing him to step down from active duty. He bequeathed his Dragon Cloth to his son Ryuho, entrusting him with the responsibilities of a Saint. After the defeat of the god Abzu, Shiryu’s senses were fully restored, yet he insisted that Ryuho continue his path as the Dragon Saint rather than reclaiming that mantle himself.

Shiryu is defined by the calm, collected, and mature demeanor that characterized him even as a Bronze Saint. He is deeply loyal to Athena and possesses a strong sense of duty, though he also values the growth of the next generation above his own glory. His motivations center on protecting the goddess and guiding his son and other young Saints to fulfill their potential. During the war against the Pallasites, Shiryu donned the Libra Gold Cloth—inherited from the previous Libra Saint Genbu—and joined the assault on the enemy stronghold, proving that his combat prowess remained formidable despite his years of inactivity.

His personality is marked by wisdom and self-sacrifice, traits he learned from his master, the original Libra Saint Dohko. He is respected by allies as a source of strength and experience. His key relationships include his son Ryuho, whose development as a Saint he carefully oversees, and Genbu, a fellow disciple of Dohko who briefly held the Libra Cloth before Shiryu reclaimed it. Within the broader story, Shiryu serves both as a mentor figure and as a powerful combatant who reenters the fray when the crisis demands it, highlighting his enduring commitment to Athena’s cause.

In terms of abilities, Shiryu retains the techniques he mastered as the Dragon Saint, including the Rozan Shoryuha and the Rozan Hyakuryuha, the latter being the ultimate technique of the Libra Gold Saint. He also wields Excalibur, the hand-sword technique passed down from the former Capricorn Saint Shura. In Saint Seiya Omega, he demonstrates control over the water element, enhancing his attacks and defense. Wearing the Libra Cloth grants him access to the six legendary weapons of Libra, which he can use to adapt to various combat situations. Despite his age and past injuries, Shiryu’s cosmo remains exceptionally powerful, allowing him to stand alongside the strongest Saints of his era.
