Ken Narita
Description
Ken Narita, born Tsutomu Narita on May 18, 1964, is a veteran Japanese actor and voice actor from Saitama Prefecture who has been active in the industry since the mid-1980s. After beginning his career in theater, he worked with several talent agencies before becoming a freelancer in the spring of 2008. He is known for a rich, resonant voice that is often used to portray calm, intelligent, and frequently冷酷 (ruthless) or aristocratic characters, though he has also demonstrated a flair for more eccentric and villainous roles.
Narita's career is highlighted by several iconic and long-running roles. He is perhaps best known as the voice of the powerful and stoic dog demon Sesshōmaru, a role he originated in the original InuYasha series and reprised decades later in its sequel, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon and its second act. Another defining performance is that of the fiercely loyal and memetically nicknamed Jeremiah Gottwald in the hit series Code Geass and its sequel film, Lelouch of the Re;surrection. His filmography also includes Ryūken Ishida in Bleach, the manipulative scientist Jail Scaglietti in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, and the Koumei Lin in Ghost Hunt.
In a significant recognition of his talent and vocal similarity, Narita was chosen to succeed the late Hirotaka Suzuoki in several of his most famous roles. This includes taking over as the long-suffering Bright Noa in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, a part he has played in projects like Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn and the film Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island. He also inherited the roles of Dragon Shiryu in Saint Seiya Omega and Saitō Hajime in the Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto-Hen arc. Beyond anime, his voice work spans video games, including characters like Vashyron in Resonance of Fate and the Captain in Genshin Impact, as well as dubbing over live-action and animated foreign media, such as providing the Japanese voice for the cartoon character Johnny Bravo.
Throughout his extensive career, Narita has frequently collaborated with a wide circle of fellow voice actors. Data from various productions shows he has worked alongside Takehito Koyasu on numerous titles, and has also had frequent team-ups with Nobuyuki Hiyama, Hōko Kuwashima, and Kappei Yamaguchi, among many others. His continued activity into the 2020s, with roles in series like Spriggan, The Too-Perfect Saint, and Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura, demonstrates his enduring presence and versatility in the world of anime voice acting.
