Description
Jeremiah Gottwald, a high-ranking Britannian military officer, served as Empress Marianne vi Britannia’s loyal guard until her assassination, an event that haunted him with unrelenting guilt. Determined to reclaim his honor, he was reassigned to Area 11, rising within the Purist faction to vehemently enforce Britannian supremacy while clashing with figures like Suzaku Kururugi, an Honorary Britannian he despised. After Prince Clovis’s murder, he framed Suzaku for the crime, only to be outmaneuvered by Zero. Using Geass, Zero compelled Jeremiah to aid Suzaku’s escape, publicly branding him with the mocking epithet “Orange”—a reference to a fabricated conspiracy.
Consumed by vengeance, Jeremiah pursued Zero with reckless abandon, leading to catastrophic defeat at the Battle of Narita. Left for dead, he was resurrected as a cybernetic enforcer under Schneizel el Britannia’s command, equipped with implants and a Geass Canceler to neutralize psychic manipulation. Though initially exploited by V.V. to target Lelouch, Jeremiah rediscovered purpose upon learning Lelouch’s lineage as Marianne’s son, swearing fealty to atone for past failures.
As Lelouch’s ally, he spearheaded assaults on the Geass Order and thwarted Schneizel’s forces, his Canceler proving vital in undoing Geass-altered memories. In the Zero Requiem’s climax, he enabled Suzaku—disguised as Zero—to execute Lelouch, cementing the latter’s martyrdom to forge global peace. Post-war, Jeremiah retired to an orange farm, reclaiming his derisive nickname as a testament to unwavering loyalty.
His physical form mirrored his evolution: once a conventional officer, he became a half-mechanical hybrid with a cybernetic eye housing the Geass Canceler. His demeanor shifted from brash arrogance to resolute devotion, anchored solely in serving Marianne’s legacy.
