Crispin Freeman

Description
Crispin Freeman is an American voice actor, voice director, and screenwriter with a career spanning over two decades, during which he has become a prominent and respected figure in the field of English-language anime dubbing. Born in Chicago, Freeman developed a passion for anime at a young age, influenced by series such as Speed Racer and Battle of the Planets. This early interest, combined with formal training in theater—he holds a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University—laid the foundation for his professional approach to voice acting. Initially hesitant about participating in dubs due to a personal preference for subtitles, he ultimately recognized the importance of English adaptations in introducing anime to a wider audience, leading him to join the industry in 1997.

Freeman's first major role was as Zelgadis Graywords in the Slayers series, a part that helped establish his career. He is widely recognized for his ability to portray complex, often intense characters. Among his most celebrated performances are Alucard in Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate, Itachi Uchiha in the Naruto franchise, and Kyon in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. He has also lent his voice to Togusa across multiple iterations of the Ghost in the Shell franchise, including Stand Alone Complex, Solid State Society, and SAC_2045, and has portrayed Shizuo Heiwajima in Durarara!! and its sequels.

In addition to these long-running roles, Freeman has voiced a wide array of characters in the 21st century. His filmography includes Jeremiah Gottwald in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, Peter Ratri in The Promised Neverland, and the Mysterious Man in the film Mirai. He has a significant presence in the Fate franchise, having voiced Kirei Kotomine in several installments including the Heaven's Feel film trilogy, as well as King Hassan in Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia. More recently, he has taken on the roles of Kirinmaru and Osamu Kirin in the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon series and its second act, Gyomei Himejima in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc, and Friede in Pokémon Horizons: The Series. Other credits include roles in Promare as Kray Foresight, Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island as Waldo Ren, Ingress as Jack Norman, and Flavors of Youth as Xiao Ming.

Beyond anime, Freeman's voice is familiar to audiences of Western animation and video games. He has voiced characters like Roy Harper / Red Arrow in Young Justice, Electro in The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Helios in God of War III. He has also worked as a voice director and ADR script writer, notably on the series Scrapped Princess.

Outside of performance, Freeman is dedicated to education within his field. He teaches classes and workshops on voice acting in the Los Angeles area and runs a website called Voice Acting Mastery, which provides resources and podcasts for aspiring voice actors. This commitment to sharing his knowledge underscores his standing as a seasoned professional dedicated to the craft.
