TV-Series
Description
Friede hails from Kanto, growing up alongside childhood friend Orla and first partnering with a Charmander that evolved into Charizard. After Orla moved to Slateport City in Hoenn, Friede stayed in Kanto, receiving guidance from mentors Lucca and Ludlow. He pursued a career as a Pokémon Professor, joining the company Exceed as a researcher. Eventually, feeling stifled and unfulfilled by lab work, he resigned. He adopted a transient life aboard Ludlow's fishing boat, the Olivine, remaining directionless until a pivotal encounter in Paldea.

There, Lucca directed Friede to observe a unique Pikachu generating vortexes with Volt Tackle to fly. Initially skeptical, Friede witnessed the phenomenon firsthand, reigniting his curiosity. After days of failed attempts to befriend the Pikachu, Friede gained its trust by gathering berries with Charizard. A shared sunrise experience solidified their bond, and Pikachu became his partner. Inspired by its aerial perspective, Friede renamed it Captain Pikachu (or Cap) and envisioned an airborne adventure crew.

Friede sought out Orla in Hoenn, commissioning her to retrofit Ludlow's boat into the airship Brave Olivine. Orla joined the nascent crew alongside Ludlow, forming the foundation of the Rising Volt Tacklers, named after Captain Pikachu's signature move. Additional members like Mollie, Murdock, and Dot were recruited over time. The crew's mission centered on exploration and discovery, welcoming both human members and wild Pokémon aboard.

Lucca later tasked Friede and the Rising Volt Tacklers with protecting her daughter, Liko, who possessed a mysterious pendant, and escorting her from Indigo Academy in Kanto to Paldea. Friede rescued Liko from the antagonistic Explorers, led by Amethio, marking his formal introduction to her and Roy, another young trainer joining the crew. Friede assumed a protective and mentoring role for both youths, integrating them into the crew while investigating the secrets of Liko's pendant and Roy's ancient Poké Ball.

Friede exhibits a free-spirited, adventurous, and often laid-back personality, preferring to be addressed by name rather than his Professor title. Despite his relaxed demeanor, he demonstrates fierce loyalty and protectiveness towards his crew, frequently placing himself in danger to ensure their safety. This is particularly evident during confrontations with the Explorers, where he serves as the primary defender, regularly battling Amethio and other admins like Spinel. He possesses a strong sense of justice, opposing those who exploit others. A recurring trait is his occasional forgetfulness, leading him to omit crucial details.

In battle, Friede relies primarily on Captain Pikachu and Charizard. Captain Pikachu, the Brave Olivine's figurehead captain, utilizes Volt Tackle, Thunder Punch, and Double Team. Charizard employs Flamethrower and Tera Blast. Friede possesses a Tera Orb, enabling Charizard to Terastallize into a Dark-type, a strategic advantage used against opponents like Amethio's Ceruledge. He temporarily cares for other Pokémon, such as Magneton and Arboliva, but Cap and Charizard remain his consistent partners.

Friede leads the Rising Volt Tacklers in locating Lucius's Six Heroes, legendary Pokémon sealed in ancient Poké Balls. This quest involves encounters across various regions, including retrieving Lapras and confronting the Black Rayquaza. During a critical mission at the ancient ruin of Laqua, the Brave Olivine sustained severe damage. While attempting to secure the airship, Friede, riding his exhausted Charizard, managed to pass Captain Pikachu to Liko before losing his grip and plummeting below the cloud layer with Charizard, disappearing from view.

His fate was left ambiguous following this fall. Post-incident, the narrative advanced one year. Friede was conspicuously absent from promotional material for the subsequent arc. His signature goggles, now cracked, were shown in Captain Pikachu's possession, who was subsequently depicted alongside Roy. This time skip saw the remaining Rising Volt Tacklers, including Liko, Roy, and Dot, continuing their journey without him.
