Staffel 1
1Argento Soma
A research facility in the countryside houses a team developing a new type of alloy. Dr. Noguchi, the lead scientist, pressures the staff to complete the material before a rival team. Engineer Takuto Kaneshiro works on the project alongside his colleague Sue Graham. An unidentified metal object crashes near the facility. The military arrives and secures the area, taking command of the site. A mysterious woman, calling herself Harriet Bartholomew, appears inside the restricted zone and approaches the crashed object. When military personnel attempt to stop her, a massive alien creature emerges from the object and attacks the facility. During the chaos, an explosion engulfs Takuto. Sue witnesses his apparent death as the creature retreats. The military seals the facility and declares the incident a cover-up. Several weeks later, a tall, bandaged man appears at a military base, identifying himself only as “Frank”. He shows no memory of his past but displays exceptional combat reflexes and an obsession with finding Harriet. Sue, now assigned to a secret military project, recognizes Frank’s physical traits as matching Takuto’s. Frank confronts Dr. Noguchi, who is now working with the military to weaponize the alien technology. Noguchi reveals that Takuto’s body was reconstructed with the alien metal and that Harriet remains a key target. Frank escapes the base, driven by fragmented memories and a singular goal. The episode closes with Frank setting out alone, his pursuit of Harriet placing him against both the military and the alien forces.
2Day of Awakening
Takuto Kaneshiro awakens in a sterile laboratory, his body reconstructed with alien tissue and synthetic components. Dr. Harriet Bartholomew informs him that the creature which killed Maki, designated Frank, remains at large. The facility’s staff call him “Soma,” the designation for their experimental soldier, and restrict his movement. He rejects the name and demands to leave, but base lockdown procedures trap him. A containment breach releases a separate alien entity into the facility. Soma’s body reacts autonomously, generating energy weapons from his arms and destroying the invader. Commander Kenneth of the anti-alien organization Funeral observes the battle and later presents Soma with a choice: remain confined indefinitely or join Funeral to hunt Frank. Soma accepts, driven by the singular goal of avenging Maki. He formally adopts the name Soma and begins combat training under Funeral’s protocols. The episode ends as Funeral’s intelligence network locates Frank’s position, sending Soma and the team toward a direct confrontation with the alien that killed his former partner.
3Reunion
Takuto Kaneshiro wakes in the research facility’s medical bay after the previous Soma attack. Lieutenant Colonel Michael Hartland informs him that the alien organism designated Soma has been sighted again near the base. Takuto is ordered to pilot the humanoid weapon Frank, though he expresses reluctance due to his lack of military training. During the deployment, a Soma descends and begins destroying external structures. Takuto engages it with Frank, but the unit’s weapon systems prove ineffective against the creature’s rapid regeneration. As the battle intensifies, a civilian vehicle is caught in the crossfire, and Takuto abandons his attack to shield it. Harriet Bartholomew, a researcher with a calm and distant demeanor, observes the engagement from the command center. After the Soma retreats without clear cause, Takuto demands answers from Hartland about the true nature of Frank and the Soma. Hartland discloses that Frank is built from Soma-derived technology and that the creatures are drawn to it. Takuto confronts Harriet, who reveals she lost her brother in an earlier Soma incident and chose to work with the military to understand the enemy. The episode closes with Takuto agreeing to stay and pilot Frank, driven by the prospect of finding the Soma that took his fiancée, while Hartland receives intelligence indicating a larger Soma mass approaching the facility.
4Farewell
Ryū Soma enters the laboratory where the captured alien creature, designated Frank, is held. Harriet Bartholomew watches through a window as Ryū removes the creature’s restraints. Frank emits a pulse that causes Harriet to collapse, triggering memories of the accident that killed her fiancé. Ryū carries Harriet to a medical bay, then returns to Frank and opens the containment chamber. Frank does not attack; instead, it communicates a desire to leave. Ryū guides Frank outside, past armed guards who hesitate to fire. Harriet arrives with a pistol and demands Ryū step aside. Ryū refuses, stating that Frank is not a threat and that the organization’s methods are wrong. Harriet lowers the weapon and allows Frank to escape into the forest. Commander Dan Simmons confronts Ryū and orders his arrest. Ryū resigns from the unit on the spot. Dan accepts the resignation but warns Ryū that he will be treated as a civilian with no protection. Harriet remains conflicted, torn between her loyalty to the organization and her growing doubt about its goals. Ryū leaves the base alone, carrying only a small bag. The episode closes with Dan instructing his subordinates to monitor Ryū’s movements and to prepare for a potential hostile encounter with Frank.
5Episode 5
The episode depicts a battle against a newly encountered alien type that the Funeral team classifies as "progressive." This alien captures and repurposes human weaponry, turning military assets against their own forces. The crew operates under a research-and-analyze-first directive, but the alien’s adaptive capabilities disrupt their strategy. Takuto pilots Bigfoot during the engagement, though his motivations and the mech’s own reasons for fighting other aliens remain unclear. Dan openly expresses hostility toward Takuto, highlighting ongoing friction within the unit. Harriet experiences moments of past trauma while also engaging in lighter conversation, creating a contrast in her behavior. Takuto reacts sharply to Harriet at one point, demanding she stay quiet. After the battle, Michael confronts Ines directly, criticizing the way she led the operation. Ines responds by noting that terms like courage and valor are ascribed to men, framing her own actions as those of a heartless woman rather than a risk-taking leader. The episode closes with tensions unresolved between key members of Funeral and lingering questions about Bigfoot’s connection to Harriet.
6Visiting
Ryu Soma secures temporary leave from the military base to search for Maki Agata in the city. Maggie accompanies him, tasked with monitoring his physical and psychological condition during the outing. They enter a café called Visiting, where Susan, a former researcher linked to the alien project, works. Ryu experiences sudden, fragmented visions from the alien entity Frank, showing memories of a woman and a laboratory. Susan recognizes the memories and explains that Frank was a human test subject who died in an experiment, and the alien now carries his identity. The entity within Ryu begins asserting Frank’s personality more forcefully, creating tension between Ryu’s own goals and the alien’s past. A man in civilian clothes observes them, then intercepts Ryu outside the café. He identifies himself as a military intelligence officer and orders Ryu to return to base immediately. Ryu refuses, stating he will continue searching for Maki regardless of the order. The officer warns him that leaving the base without authorization will be treated as desertion. Ryu’s insistence on pursuing his personal mission forces the military’s surveillance to escalate, leaving him caught between the entity’s growing influence and the chain of command.
7Cage of Reminiscence
Ryu Soma and Harriet Bartholomew pilot their Soma units on a reconnaissance mission to an abandoned city. Ryu’s concentration breaks when he repeatedly sees visions of Maki Agata, his former fiancée who died in a prior incident. Harriet warns him to focus, but Ryu continues to experience fragmented memories of Maki’s final moments. The patrol detects a Soma; Harriet engages the creature while Ryu remains frozen, unable to pilot his unit. Harriet shields Ryu from the Soma’s attack, damaging her unit in the process. After the Soma retreats, Ryu returns to base and isolates himself in his quarters. Lieutenant Tokioka and Dr. Shinguji discuss Ryu’s psychological state, noting that his unresolved guilt endangers the team. Maki’s younger sister, Makoto Agata, visits the base and confronts Ryu, demanding to know why he survived instead of Maki. Ryu admits his feelings of responsibility for Maki’s death and acknowledges that he has avoided facing the truth. Makoto leaves without offering forgiveness, leaving Ryu alone with his guilt. The episode ends with Ryu deciding to continue piloting the Soma unit, accepting the risk of confronting both the enemy and his past.
8Episode 8
The United States of Funk’s military command deploys a full-scale assault on the Black Dragon,a massive Soma that has remained hidden in the mountains. Ryu Soma and his fellow pilot Sue Harris launch in their Frank units as part of the coordinated strike force. Commander Michael Heartland orders the operation despite incomplete intelligence on the Black Dragon’s capabilities. The creature retaliates with a concentrated energy blast that disables multiple Frank units and exposes the offensive’s weak preparation. Harriet Bartholomew, observing from the command ship, analyzes the Black Dragon’s behavior and identifies a recurring pattern in its shield deployment. She relays a precise firing window to the remaining pilots, allowing them to land direct hits that breach the Soma’s armor. Ryu’s Frank sustains critical damage during the final exchange, forcing him to eject moments before the Black Dragon collapses and disintegrates. The victory leaves the Funk forces with heavy equipment losses and a dwindling number of operational Frank units. In the aftermath, Heartland orders the team to relocate to a new forward base, citing the need to stay ahead of remaining hostile Soma migrations. Ryu questions whether the Black Dragon’s death was an actual victory or merely the removal of one obstacle among many yet unseen. Harriet discovers fragmented data in the Black Dragon’s remains that hints at a coordinated purpose behind the Soma movements, deepening the uncertainty surrounding their true nature.
9Loneliness and Sorrow
Following a battle,Hattie witnesses the SARG units firing their weapons and suffers a panic attack. Medical staff sedate her with tranquilizers and place her under observation in the base facility. Commander Ines meets with the attending doctor, who explains that Hattie can communicate with Frank because nine shards of alien metal remain embedded in her body and brain. The doctor theorizes these fragments create the unique connection that allows only Hattie to interact with the giant. After regaining consciousness, Hattie escapes from the medical wing. The base immediately goes on alert as personnel mobilize to locate her. The revelation about the metal fragments provides the first concrete explanation for Hattie’s link to Frank. Her disappearance introduces new uncertainty, as her fragile psychological state makes her a liability. The search effort reveals how dependent the organization has become on her ability to control Frank. Hattie’s flight sets the stage for a potential confrontation that could compromise the entire operation.
10Episode 10
The Funeral team lands on an isolated island after radar detects a dormant Soma signature. Ryō Soma and Harriet Bartholomew enter a derelict research facility where they discover containment cells and log entries detailing human-Soma fusion experiments. A Soma organism emerges from a collapsed underground chamber and attacks the facility. Ryō launches in Frank to intercept, but the Soma emits a concentrated energy wave that disrupts Frank’s systems. During the malfunction, Ryō experiences a vivid hallucination of Maki Agata, his deceased fiancée, standing amidst the wreckage. His consciousness fractures, and his alternate personality—referring to itself as “Soma”—seizes control of the cockpit. The alter ego pilots Frank with cold precision, tearing the Soma apart using tactics the regular Ryō has never demonstrated. Harriet witnesses the transformation and reports to Commander Morimoto that Ryō behaved like a different person. After the battle, Ryō wakes in the hangar with no recollection of the past hour. Morimoto orders psychological restraints placed on Frank’s activation system to prevent further uncontrolled episodes. The alter ego’s voice echoes in Ryō’s mind, claiming that Ryō’s time in control is ending.
11Malice and Betrayal
Ryu Soma’s psychological state deteriorates as his proximity to Hattie, who reminds him of his deceased fiancée Maki, and his forced cooperation with Frank intensify his inner turmoil. High-ranking military officers, facing the threat of Frank’s existence being exposed to the public, pressure Commander Lana Ines. They reiterate their order for her to detonate the nuclear device implanted on Frank at the first sign of instability. A mysterious event triggers Frank to break free from FUNERAL’s control and flee on his own. The FUNERAL team scrambles to intercept the rogue giant before he can reach an unknown destination. Ines faces the direct consequence of her orders: she must decide whether to deploy the team to capture Frank or initiate his destruction. The military brass monitors the situation closely, prepared to act if Ines hesitates to use the explosive. Ryu’s personal quest for revenge against Frank collides with his immediate duty to follow orders and potentially save the creature he despises. The team launches in their SARG units to pursue Frank, aware that failure means either a catastrophic rampage or the detonation of the nuclear device. Ryu now hurtles toward a confrontation where his desire for vengeance may force him to choose between letting Frank be destroyed or stopping the military’s failsafe.
12Betrayal and Despair
A massive alien variant, one thousand times the mass of a standard invader and rivaling mountain ranges in height, advances toward FUNERAL base. The creature’s surface absorbs shocks, rendering the Excalibur weapon system ineffective. Commander Inez orders a joint attack using the SARG units and the giant robot Frank. The assault fails to stop the alien’s advance. Inez then attempts to deploy a nuclear device mounted on Frank to destroy the target. She discovers the warhead is a dummy. The deception leaves FUNERAL without its last resort defensive measure. Frank sustains severe damage during the engagement and becomes inoperable. The alien’s path remains fixed on the base, which sits directly in the creature’s trajectory to a location designated as the Pilgrimage Point. With its primary weapon gone and its strongest asset disabled, the base faces imminent destruction.
13Episode 13
The survivors of the Funerary Base gather in the aftermath of the attack. Lieutenant Dan Simmons and Commander Michael Hartland organize the remaining personnel for evacuation. Ryu Soma launches in the Argent to defend the transport aircraft from a Frank assault. During the battle,Ryu hears Harriet’s voice inside the cockpit more distinctly than before. After returning, Commander Hartland shows Ryu a recorded message from the original Ryu Soma. The message reveals that Ryu is a bio-mechanical construct created to replace the original pilot who died three years earlier. Harriet’s recordings confirm she was the original Ryu’s fiancée, and her lingering consciousness now resides within the Argent. Ryu locks himself in the hangar, refusing to speak with others as the crew prepares to depart. The transport aircraft takes off, carrying the core members toward a research facility in South America. Ryu emerges from the hangar and requests to pilot the Argent again, accepting the mission to find the origins of the Frank and his own existence. The closing shots show the Argent secured to the aircraft’s exterior as the group flies into the unknown, with the next conflict centered on the secrets waiting at their destination.
14Hope and Chaos
The FUNERAL command staff convenes an inquiry following the base's narrow survival of the alien attack. Commanders and politicians gather to assess the ongoing situation. The meeting presents new data and theories regarding the repeated alien invasions. Scientists present findings on why the aliens congregate toward the Pilgrimage Point. Generals and politicians then shift the discussion toward assigning blame for recent failures. They argue over responsibility despite their continued involvement in the prolonged war. The debate exposes fractures within the chain of command. No concrete strategic decisions emerge from the accusations. The inquiry concludes without resolving the underlying tensions. FUNERAL personnel witness the discord among their superiors. The immediate consequence leaves the base's operational direction uncertain. Personnel must prepare for the next alien assault while command remains mired in internal conflict.
15Chaos and Confusion
The FUNERAL base crew works to repair the extensive damage from the previous alien attack. Frank remains unconscious, recovering from his injuries. All but one of the SARG units are too damaged for use and have been sent offsite for repairs. Commander Ines orders the transfer of the incapacitated Extra 1 (Frank) to another facility. Ryu Soma pilots the transport escort, with Harriet aboard. The reduced operational capacity leaves the base vulnerable. Ryu pilots the sole functional SARG during the transfer mission. His thoughts return repeatedly to Maki and his revenge. Each mission where Frank succeeds moves him further from the confrontation he seeks. The transport reaches its destination without alien interference. Ryu watches Frank’s inert form being moved and realizes his target remains beyond his reach. The episode closes with Ryu’s frustration mounting as repairs prolong the stalemate between his duty and his vengeance.
16Conflict and Decisions
Frank arrives at the MORGUE research facility, his birthplace. Ryu reports the Sarg attack during the Extra 1 transport to Commander Inness. Captain Heartland launches an investigation while Ryu observes the scientists' methods to revive Frank. The research facility setting forces Ryu to confront resurfacing memories of Maki. He snaps at Hattie, accusing her of acting flighty and not her age. A trio of scientists initiates Frank's revival using four recovered alien heads as templates. During the revival program, the four alien heads activate independently. Frank remains comatose as the activated heads begin destroying the research facility. The attack puts the entire base and the revival project in immediate jeopardy. The scientists lose control of the experiment as the alien components turn hostile. Ryu must shift focus from his personal turmoil to the present physical threat.
17Decisions and the Past
A new alien type enters Earth’s orbit, forcing the deployment of the Atmospheric Fighter group stationed in Alaska. Ryu supposedly served in this unit before transferring to FUNERAL, placing his fabricated identity under direct scrutiny. A fighter from that group sustains severe damage and lands at the FUNERAL base for repairs. The pilot, Rick, recognizes the base and seeks out Ryu, believing his old friend Taketo died during the experiment that created Frank. Ryu attempts to maintain distance to protect his cover, but Rick approaches him directly. Rick carries guilt over past actions and confesses his betrayal of Taketo to pursue Maki, believing speaking to a stranger will ease his conscience. Each revelation from Rick deepens the pain Ryu carries, forcing him to listen to his former life as a dead man. The weight of Rick’s guilt and Ryu’s hidden identity collide as the conversation forces Ryu to confront the man he used to be. Rick departs without discovering the truth, leaving Ryu isolated with the knowledge of his friend’s betrayal. The encounter tightens the pressure on Ryu’s deception while the alien threat above demands immediate action. Ryu must now continue his mission with the emotional wounds of his past fully reopened.
18The Past and Crimes
An alien’s punch contaminates Guenevere’s SARG during combat. As the Funeral team returns to base, her unit breaks formation and veers toward the Pilgrimage Point. Dan and Sue move to intercept and extract her from the runaway machine. The rogue SARG attacks both of them, knocking their units out of commission. With Guenevere unable to regain control and her SARG on a direct course for the Pilgrimage Point, the UN dispatches fighter aircraft armed with nuclear warheads. The orders authorize the pilots to destroy the SARG before it reaches its destination. The team watches helplessly as their comrade hurtles toward a point the aliens have repeatedly sought, now carrying a nuclear strike on her position. Military protocol overrides any rescue attempt, leaving Guenevere’s survival dependent on forces beyond the team’s control. The imminent detonation threatens to erase both the Pilgrimage Point and the contaminated SARG in a single blast.
19Episode 19
The pilots learn the SARG units were constructed from alien corpses rather than reverse-engineered from alien technology. Sue refuses to pilot a SARG again, expressing sustained fear over using the machines. Ryu suffers from recurring nightmares that distort his memories, convincing him Maki never loved him. Guinevere recovers in the infirmary, and Ryu visits her. Their relationship develops as Guinevere responds to Ryu's changed behavior and makes her feelings for him known. Ryu struggles to distinguish between Hattie and Maki in his mind. Hattie works to teach Frank how to speak, and Ryu's confusion intensifies whenever he watches Hattie speak with the alien. Dan and Sue leave to meet an old man who discovered an alien artifact after an attack, arriving to find a village in ruins. The team confronts the consequences of earlier revelations about Frank's sentience and the true nature of the SARG program. Ryu's inability to separate past from present threatens his stability as new alliances form and others fracture under the weight of the truth. The arrival at the destroyed village signals a new threat that will demand immediate action from Dan and Sue.
20The Visitor
The alien Frank detaches from Harriet Bartholomew and reverts to its original form. Michael Hartland orders the base’s defensive systems to activate against the new alien entity arriving in orbit. Takuto Kaneshiro, operating as Ryō Soma, launches in the tactical unit to intercept the entity. Harriet moves toward Frank, believing its connection to her remains intact. The military’s barrage fails against the alien’s barrier. Sue Harris deciphers a transmission from the entity, revealing it seeks the silver body—Soma’s tactical suit. The entity projects an image of Takuto’s deceased fiancée, Maki Agata, and communicates that it is a visitor searching for a means to complete its mission. Harriet steps between the entity and the military, and Frank reforms to shield her, dissolving its own structure in the process. The entity withdraws but leaves a fragment that merges with Soma’s systems. Takuto experiences a cascade of recovered memories, reinforcing his determination to learn the alien’s purpose. Michael receives orders to initiate the Ark project, setting human factions on a direct collision course over control of the alien technology.
21Awakening and Truth
Frank recovers his memories and identifies himself as Yuri Leonov,a former astronaut. A flashback details Yuri Leonov's final mission as part of a UN flight program. Yuri left his wife behind to undertake another assignment. His flight received orders to investigate a gravitational anomaly, a mission that led to his unintentional sacrifice in the name of scientific research. Colonel David Lawrence, the mission commander on Earth and a close friend of Yuri, had argued against sending the flight to investigate the anomaly. Yuri's last memory before the incident was seeing the anomaly up close. He claims he returned to Earth in the form of the alien invaders that now threaten humanity. The flashback also reveals that the long-haired man who recruited Ryu as a spy is Colonel David Lawrence. Frank's regained identity confirms the connection between the alien beings and the human astronauts who encountered the original anomaly. The recovery of these memories transforms Frank from an unknown entity into a man with a past and a personal connection to Lawrence. Lawrence's role in both the original incident and the current conflict places him at the center of the unfolding conspiracy. The episode closes with the weight of this truth hanging over the characters as they face the reality of the aliens' human origins.
22Episode 22
Frank faces Harriet inside the alien vessel, intent on killing her. Harriet admits she has been working with the aliens and identifies herself as a Sleeper, a human converted to serve their purpose. Frank hesitates when Harriet speaks of her lost humanity, and Michael shoots Frank from behind. Frank falls, and his dying words urge the others to stop the alien plan. Ryu arrives and sees Frank’s body, triggering an uncontrolled surge from his Soma unit. The energy release injures nearby allies and allows Harriet and Michael to escape. The military personnel regroup, acknowledging that Harriet now commands the aliens’ forces. At the base, the massive weapon Sphinx undergoes final activation preparations. Ryu, struggling with his identity, resolves to pilot the Sphinx to confront Harriet directly. The launch sequence begins, setting Ryu on a collision course with both the alien threat and the person Harriet once was.
23Invader
The alien entity Frank breaches its containment and launches a direct assault on the FUNERAL headquarters. Ryō Soma engages Frank in the tactical unit SARG,but his attacks prove ineffective as the entity rapidly adapts to each strike. Inside the base, Harriet Bartholomew corners Dr. Makoto Agata and demands the complete truth about the alien’s origin. Agata reveals that Frank initially bonded with a test subject during failed enhancement experiments, and that Ryō’s lost fiancée Maki became part of the alien collective. Frank pierces the inner defenses, absorbs multiple personnel, and seizes control of the base’s automated weaponry. Harriet exposes herself directly to the alien core in an attempt to sabotage its growth, leading Frank to incorporate her into its expanding structure. Ryō witnesses the assimilation and hesitates, caught between destroying Frank and the chance to rescue Harriet. Commander Michael Heartland orders a full evacuation and authorizes the base’s self-destruct sequence to contain the threat. Lieutenant Sue Harris disobeys the order and instead guides Ryō toward a secondary access point where a direct strike on Frank’s central nucleus remains possible. Ryō enters the core chamber and faces the fused form of Harriet and Frank as the self-destruct timer runs down.
24Episode 24
Ryu Soma pilots the SARG into the alien structure to confront the entity that shares his body. Hattie follows him in her own unit, determined to separate Ryu from the alien influence. The alien collective deploys multiple drones to intercept them, forcing both pilots into a defensive retreat. Hattie overrides her unit’s safety limits to clear a path for Ryu, sustaining critical damage in the process. Ryu reaches the core chamber and faces the other consciousness directly, refusing its offer to merge completely. Outside, the military fleet under Commander Dan launches a concentrated bombardment to destabilize the main alien vessel. Hattie’s unit loses all power, and she sends a final transmission confirming her choice to protect Ryu at the cost of her own life. The core destabilizes, and the alien structure begins to collapse. Ryu escapes as the vessel disintegrates, but the psychic link with the alien is severed. Hattie’s death leaves a permanent absence among the surviving crew members. Ryu returns to the base physically intact but emotionally hollow, uncertain of his place without the conflict that defined him. The episode closes with a quiet moment on the base, where the remaining characters must decide how to move forward after the war’s end.
25Episode 25
Ryu Soma launches in the experimental robot to intercept the alien Frank before it reaches the Earth Federation base. Harriet guides Soma from the command center while Maki Agata remains inside the alien vessel, connected to the entity that once used the name Frank. The alien attempts to communicate with Soma, revealing its fragmented memories of the original Frank, the researcher who died years earlier. Soma refuses to accept the alien’s plea for coexistence and continues his attack, driven by his long-held desire for revenge. Maki uses her bond with the alien to influence its actions, hoping to prevent further destruction. The battle damages both Soma’s robot and the alien vessel, forcing a stalemate. In the aftermath, the alien’s form dissolves, leaving Maki stranded in the wreckage. Soma abandons his assault and rescues Maki, choosing to let go of his personal vendetta. The Federation forces secure the area, and the immediate threat ends. Harriet reports the conclusion of the conflict, but the data recovered from the alien suggests remnants of its existence remain. The episode closes with Soma and Maki facing an uncertain future as the scars of the war linger.
