Description
Osamu Kirin enters the story of the second act as an English teacher at Saint Gabriel Academy in the modern era, where he serves as Towa Higurashi's homeroom teacher. This ordinary professional appearance conceals his true identity, because he is secretly the second incarnation of Kirinmaru, the qilin great demon known as the Lord of the Eastern Lands. He originated from a portion of Kirinmaru and was sent through the Bone Eater's Well to the modern world on Kirinmaru's orders, allowing him to take root in the present day long before the final conflict unfolds.

On the surface, Osamu Kirin presents himself as a composed, dependable, and cooperative figure. During his time in the modern era, he quietly works to exterminate the demons that appear in the present day, and he asks Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha to help him slay demons at a concert. These actions create the impression that he is a helpful ally who shares the half-demon princesses' concern for protecting the modern world, and the trust that Towa places in him as her former teacher becomes central to the dramatic reversal that follows.

His true motivations are tied entirely to Kirinmaru's ambitions. Kirinmaru seeks to reach the modern era and destroy the Grim Comet, a celestial threat to humanity, with the intention of ruling over both humans and demons. When the half-demon princesses return to the modern era to confront the comet, Osamu Kirin meets them and initially claims to share their goal. He then betrays them by transporting the comet to the feudal era, trapping Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha in the present day and shifting the crisis to the era where their families and allies reside. In the same final sequence, he approaches Rion, Kirinmaru's daughter, convinces her that they both desire the same world, and promises to make that world a reality.

His role in the story is that of a late-stage antagonist whose betrayal completes Kirinmaru's scheme and forces the final battle. As the second incarnation of Kirinmaru, he functions largely as an extension of the great demon's will, and his development follows a clear trajectory from trusted teacher to revealed traitor. His actions directly complicate the half-demon princesses' plan, and their response to his interference, together with the sacrifices made by others, ultimately allows them to rejoin their family and prevent the coming of the Degenerate Age.

His notable abilities stem from his demonic nature. He possesses supernatural strength and combat skill, demonstrated by his capacity to fight and eliminate demons on his own in the modern era. His most significant power is his control over space and time, which he displays when he moves the Grim Comet from the modern era to the feudal era in a single act. As an incarnation of a qilin great demon, his presence connects the modern-day setting with the feudal-era conflict, and his powers position him as a decisive obstacle in the final confrontation.
