Description
Osamu Kirin emerged from the severed right arm of the demon Kirinmaru, detached during the Heian period battle against the Great Dog Demon Tōga. Kirinmaru's subordinate Riku discarded the arm in the Bone-Eater's Well, propelling it through time to the Muromachi period. There, the arm evolved into a distinct entity named Osamu Kirin, preserving Kirinmaru's memories and combat prowess. He dwelled within the well's structure until Kagome Higurashi's time travel in 2000, ultimately surfacing in the Reiwa era.

Initially pursuing a career as a history teacher, Osamu Kirin abandoned this ambition upon discovering modern historical texts dismissed demons as mythical creatures. He instead taught English at Saint Gabriel Academy, adopting human mannerisms and quoting proverbs like "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" to students. His human disguise featured glasses and formal suits or coats, though he retained Kirinmaru's green eyes and a distinctive mark on his right arm.

As a teacher, he exhibited leniency toward student Towa Higurashi, ignoring her tardiness and skirmishes with delinquents without alerting guardians. He frequented Higurashi Shrine, drawn to its Sacred Tree of Ages and the sealed Bone-Eater's Well—his emergence point. His behavior blended theatrical human etiquette with enigmatic motives, often lingering pensively near the well or tree while privately mourning humanity's ignorance of demonic history.

When the Grim Comet threatened Earth during the Reiwa era, Osamu Kirin detected its approach and defended humans by eliminating comet-spawned entities like Shibugarasu and sewer-dwelling toad demons in Tokyo. Acknowledging his inability to destroy the comet single-handedly, he allied with half-demon princesses Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha after revealing his true origin and professing a desire to protect humanity.

This alliance fractured when Osamu Kirin learned of Rion’s (Kirinmaru's daughter) ancient death at a half-demon's hands. He betrayed the princesses, using the Zanseiken sword to transport the Grim Comet to the feudal era to fulfill Kirinmaru's wish of annihilating it and rewriting history. Upon arrival, he manipulated Rion by displaying visions of the modern world and exploiting her filial devotion to secure her cooperation. Merging with Rion and the comet's Grim Butterfly essence, he proclaimed eternal dominion over a demon-free world.

Within the Grim Butterfly, Osamu Kirin confronted Kirinmaru directly, denouncing him as a neglectful father and commanding him to kill Sesshōmaru. He battled the princesses and Riku, draining Towa’s demonic energy and championing demonkind’s eradication. During the clash, he mortally wounded Riku but suffered a stab wound from Towa and dismemberment by Riku’s counterattack. His physical form perished while lamenting his failure to shield Rion, though his lingering demonic essence briefly imprisoned Rion in illusions before his final dissolution.
