TV-Series
Description
Koujo Lin, a Hong Kong native, stands as both guardian and assistant to Kazuya Shibuya (Naru), employed by Naru’s parents to safeguard him and instruct him in qigong for managing his volatile psychic energy. Beyond mentorship, Lin aids Naru’s quest to locate his deceased twin brother, Eugene—a figure tied to Lin’s own past through a childhood bond. His reserved, solemn exterior conceals fierce loyalty, driving him to shoulder hazardous or grueling duties to shield Naru from harm.

Tall and sharp-eyed, Lin’s long black bangs obscure his right eye, which harbors electromagnetic vision capable of detecting light wavelengths beyond human perception. This ability induces strain when unrestrained, prompting him to keep the eye veiled. His visible left eye gleams grey, complementing his signature formal attire.

Interactions with others often begin with icy hostility, particularly toward Japanese individuals—a lingering resentment rooted in historical Sino-Japanese conflicts. This animosity flares during his first encounter with Mai Taniyama, whom he rescues from a collapsing shelf, sustaining a broken leg. Their relationship thaws only after Mai confronts his prejudice, echoing wisdom once imparted by Eugene. This pivotal exchange shifts Lin’s view of Mai from a national symbol to an individual, fostering gradual mutual respect.

A seasoned onmyoji, Lin commands exorcisms, summons spirit familiars (shiki), and wields Taoist-derived techniques, making him vital against supernatural threats during investigations. Though typically stoic, rare flashes of warmth surface, such as during unexpectedly cordial exchanges with Madoka Mori.

Initially employed as Naru’s tutor, Lin’s early clashes with the teen stemmed from cultural friction. Over time, reliance forged a bond between them. His guardianship often manifests in stern reprimands against Naru’s reckless psychic gambits, underscoring his concealed concern. Across the core series, Lin’s evolution subtly transforms him from an aloof enforcer to a figure who, while maintaining restraint, invests deeper emotion into team cohesion—shielding Mai in crises, collaborating under duress, and navigating peril with allies.

His narrative remains anchored to duty and protection, with growth emerging through layered relationships rather than overt shifts, consistent across documented appearances.
