Description
Eiha is a young girl who belongs to a race known as the Bounded Ones, a species native to the island of Nil Kamui. Her life is forcibly linked to a fearsome, eyeless canine beast with bat-like wings named Val through a special, vine-like chain. As a Bounded One, Eiha shares her life force directly with Val, a connection that grants her certain abilities but also severely limits her lifespan, typically not allowing her to live beyond the age of fifteen or sixteen. Before joining the Revolutionary Army, she lived a harsh, animalistic existence and was captured and sold as a slave, passed from one master to another as a living weapon. Her status in society is that of a lower class, often treated as a tool rather than a person.

Reflecting her difficult past as a slave, Eiha initially presents a cold, distant, and almost emotionless exterior towards others. She is quiet and reserved, a demeanor born from a lifetime of being used and discarded. Despite this hardened shell, she is capable of forming deep bonds of loyalty and friendship with those who treat her with kindness. Her primary motivation is to protect Ibuki, a descendant of Nil Kamui's royal family whom she is assigned to guard. This sense of duty is not merely an assignment; it evolves into a profound personal commitment, as Ibuki is one of the few people who sees her as a friend rather than a tool, similar to her friendship with Mashiro, another member of the Revolutionary Army.

Eiha serves as a key member of the Revolutionary Army, which seeks independence for Nil Kamui. She is later selected to join the Red Dragon Expeditionary Group, where her primary role is to act as the guardian and escort for Ibuki throughout their dangerous journey. Her most significant relationship is with Ibuki, to whom she is a deuteragonist and platonic life partner. She rides into battle on Val’s back and commands the creature at will, making them an inseparable combat pair. Her other important relationship is with Juna, another Bounded One who helped her join the Revolutionary Army.

Eiha’s development is marked by tragic events and a unique form of rebirth. In a pivotal moment of the story, she is sacrificed by Ibuki. However, she is later reborn as the last of the dragon shrine maidens. The Red Dragon makes a pact with Ibuki, giving Val’s remaining life force to Eiha to facilitate her revival. After her rebirth, she takes on a new form that resembles Val, indicating a profound and lasting transformation. While she loses her memories, she retains a vague but powerful feeling that she must find someone, suggesting that her bond with Ibuki transcends even death and the loss of memory.

Eiha’s notable abilities are intrinsically linked to her bond with Val. As a Bounded One, she can command Val to attack with devastating force, using his massive claws and fangs to dispatch enemies, often in a single blow. Val also possesses exceptional tracking and detection abilities, making Eiha an effective scout and hunter. She can ride Val, using it for aerial transport and combat, which grants her high mobility on the battlefield. Her entire life force is shared with Val, meaning the well-being of one is directly tied to the other.
