Description
Makoto Aro is a mysterious young man with green hair who appears in the anime Brigadoon. He is nicknamed Aroma by the main character Marin Asagi. He is frequently seen eating and is involved in the construction of a structure called Rainbow Bridge. From his first appearances, he demonstrates prior knowledge of the Monomakias, the bionic creatures from the other world Brigadoon. On one occasion he refers to Earth as the Funny World, a term used by the Lolo-creatures native to Brigadoon, implying that he may originate from that world. Marin speculates that he might be a time traveler, and by the end of the series it is revealed that he is both a being from Brigadoon and a time traveler. Moreover, his physical form is actually a robot piloted by a character named Lulu, a renegade from Brigadoon.
Makoto is described as good-looking and polite, with a calm and unassuming demeanor. He appears unexpectedly in various places and often provides important information to Marin. His habit of eating whenever he appears adds to his relaxed and enigmatic presence. He seems to care about Marin and tries to help her when he can, offering advice about the events and creatures surrounding her.
His motivations are closely tied to the larger conflict between Earth and Brigadoon. He assists Marin and her protector Melan Blue by sharing knowledge about the Monomakias and the Pasca Ritual. The construction of Rainbow Bridge appears to be a significant part of his activities, and his true role is eventually understood as a vessel for Lulu, who uses a Monomakia to manipulate space and time.
In the story, Makoto serves as a supporting character who provides cryptic guidance and a sense of mystery. His relationship with Marin is the most developed: he calls her Aroma and shows genuine concern for her safety. His controller, Lulu, is the one who ultimately operates his robotic body, making his independent actions a facade.
Throughout the series, Makoto’s nature is gradually unveiled. He begins as an enigmatic human-looking boy with unusual knowledge, then is confirmed to be from Brigadoon and a time traveler. The final revelation that he is a robot piloted by Lulu redefines his identity, showing that his apparent free will was an illusion.
Makoto Aro possesses extensive knowledge about Monomakias and the workings of Brigadoon. He is involved in the construction of Rainbow Bridge, indicating technical or spatial expertise. As a robot controlled by Lulu, he can manipulate space and time through a Monomakia, granting the ability to travel through time and potentially alter dimensional events. His physical form is likely durable and may have capabilities beyond those of an ordinary human, though specific abilities are not highlighted further.
