Description
Namiko Gokumare is a supporting character in the Mon Colle Knights anime, where she serves as the schoolteacher for the class attended by the main protagonists Mondo Ooya and Rokuna Hiiragi. In the English adaptation she is renamed Naomi Loon. She is a competent and kind educator who genuinely cares about her students' well‑being, but she is deeply insecure about her own life and is constantly preoccupied with finding a husband to marry. This obsession dominates her personal thoughts, and she frequently becomes smitten with men she encounters, though none of these infatuations ever lead to a relationship. She also has a strong love for cats and regularly feeds stray cats near her home.
Her role in the story is primarily that of a recurring comic relief character, often appearing in the background of everyday school life. However, she occasionally becomes directly involved in the adventures of the Mon Colle Knights. Her first trip to the monster world, Rokumon Sekai, occurs when she accidentally falls in and encounters a group of hostile cat sith. The katnip she carries makes the cats friendly, and she helps protect them. After being put to sleep by Professor Ichiroubei Hiiragi, she wakes up believing the whole experience was a dream – until she discovers a monster card in her possession, indicating that she did indeed travel to the other world. Later, while on holiday in Germany, she tumbles into Count Collection’s garden, where she meets the Black Tango Cat and becomes infatuated with Count Collection himself. She hitches a ride with him to Rokumon Sekai, where the Black Tango Cat repeatedly urges her to use her own powers to stay safe – a suggestion she rejects because she does not believe she has any. When Count Collection recognizes her as the monster he had encountered months earlier and reveals himself as a villain, she is deeply shocked. He attacks her with the Minotaur and she loses consciousness. After the Knights save the day, the Black Tango Cat advises her to be content with herself as she is, but she refuses to accept that.
Throughout the series, Namiko appears in virtually every episode, with particularly significant roles in episodes focusing on her adventures. In the grand finale, she finally takes an active part in the conflict and helps take down an army of monsters, demonstrating that she does possess hidden abilities connected to the monster world. Her notable abilities include an affinity for cats – her katnip can pacify even hostile cat monsters – and the capacity to control a monster card. Despite her initial denial of any power, she ultimately proves capable of wielding those abilities when the situation demands it.
Her key relationships include her students Mondo and Rokuna, whom she teaches and looks after in school. She also forms a bond with the Black Tango Cat, a feline creature that tries to guide her. Her blind infatuation with Count Collection highlights her desperate search for romance, but it also leads to her confronting the reality of her own potential. Over the course of the series, she develops from a woman who believes she is ordinary and unlucky into someone who acknowledges and uses her unusual talents, even if she remains largely unaware of her own worth.
