Description
Lory Midorikawa, also known as Mew Lory, is one of the five main heroines in the anime Tokyo Mew Mew. She is the third member of the team to be introduced and is infused with the DNA of a finless porpoise, an endangered species. In her civilian life, Lory is a shy and gentle second-year junior high school student who attends Okumura Junior High School and works part-time as a waitress at Café Mew Mew, which serves as the team's headquarters.

Her personality is defined by her quiet, timid, and kind nature. She is often bullied by other girls at school due to her reserved demeanor, which has left her with low self-confidence and a tendency to avoid confrontation. Despite this, Lory possesses a strong inner sense of justice and a deep desire to protect others, which motivates her to embrace her role as a Mew Mew. Her primary motivation stems from a wish to become braver and to stand up for herself and those who cannot fight back.

In the story, Lory serves as the calm and empathetic heart of the group. Her aquatic-based powers, derived from the finless porpoise, allow her to manipulate water and perform supportive and defensive maneuvers during battles against Chimera Animas and the alien invaders. Her signature attack involves summoning and directing powerful waves or currents, which she uses to restrain enemies or shield her teammates.

Lory's key relationships include her fellow Mew Mews, particularly Ichigo Momomiya, the team's leader, who becomes a close friend and source of encouragement. Lory also forms a bond with the other members, such as the confident Minto Aizawa and the energetic Bu-Ling Huang, and their camaraderie helps her grow more assertive over time. Her interactions with the alien antagonists, such as Quiche, Pie, and Tart, are minimal but reflect her role as a supportive fighter rather than a primary combatant.

Throughout the series, Lory undergoes noticeable personal development. She gradually overcomes her shyness and learns to trust her own abilities, becoming more confident in both her everyday life and her superhero duties. Her growth is often highlighted in episodes where she must act independently or defend someone weaker than herself, leading her to realize that courage comes from within.

Notable abilities include her power to generate and control water, which she can shape into attacks, barriers, or supportive streams. As Mew Lory, she gains enhanced agility, the ability to breathe underwater, and physical traits of a porpoise, such as fins and a tail. Her transformed appearance is marked by blue and green tones that reflect her aquatic theme. She also possesses the standard Mew Mew capabilities of heightened senses and accelerated healing when in her transformed state.
